This morning brought with it an announcement from Ford that it is recalling some of its popular vehicles. Fires, brake issues, and defects are the root of the issues for a total of over 560,000 vehicles. One of the recalls involves the most popular vehicle Ford has, the F-150 pickup truck. The others are for the Ford Edge, Lincoln MKX, and the Lincoln Corsair.

Recalls are headaches. However, they are issued only if there is a good reason for them. So, regardless of the headaches they create, it is good to pay attention to them when they are issued. It is also prudent to take action right away if it is for one’s own vehicle. 

2020 Ford F-150 pickup truck

The recall for the 2020 Ford F-150 is for 431 vehicles. No accidents or injuries are related to this issue. The concern is around an attachment nut for the positive battery cable. It could have been improperly attached. This could cause a bad connection, increase heat, electrical arcing, and possibly a fire. However, no reports of fires have been reported.

According to the press release,

“Affected vehicles were built at Kansas City Assembly Plant from June 30 to July 1, 2020. Dealers will replace the starter motor B+ power supply attachment nut. The Ford reference number for this recall is 20S40.”

Select 2015-18 Ford Edge and 2016-18 Lincoln MKX vehicles

This recall is for select 2015-2018 Ford Edge models and the corporate counterpart 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX models. Certain brake hoses can rupture and cause a loss of brake fluid. Consequently, increased brake pedal travel can be experienced and a reduction in the rate of deceleration. This, of course, can lead to an accident. 

A total of 488,594 vehicles in the U.S. and federal territories, and 62,876 in Canada and 7,140 in Mexico are affected by this recall. No reports of accidents or injuries have been reported yet regarding this concern. 

Again, according to the press release, 

“Affected vehicles are as follows: 2015-18 Ford Edge vehicles built at Oakville Assembly Plant from June 25, 2014, to Dec. 21, 2017 and 2016-18 Lincoln MKX vehicles built there from Nov. 11, 2014, to Dec. 21, 2017. Dealers will replace the front brake jounce hoses with new hoses that have a revised braid material. The Ford reference number for this recall is 20S42.”

Select 2020 Lincoln Corsair

Select models of the 2020 Lincoln Corsair may have a concern with their rear coil springs. The springs may not have the clearance necessary with a toe link bracket. This can cause wearing, rust, or even a fracture in the spring. If the spring cracks, it could fall off the vehicle and endanger others that are following the vehicle. 

A total of 2,965 vehicles in the U.S. and federal territories, 491 in Canada, and 141 in Mexico are affected by the recall. Ford is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this condition.

Per the release, 

“Affected vehicles were built at Louisville Assembly Plant from Jan. 7 to Oct. 21, 2019. Dealers will inspect the vehicles for proper clearance between the toe link bracket and rear coil spring. If needed, the toe link bracket edge will be trimmed, and a new coil spring will be installed. The Ford reference number for this recall is 20S41.”
