When it comes to off-roading, daily driving, and more, safety is always first, which is why the 2021 Ford Bronco has an incredible advantage over the 2021 Jeep Wrangler. While both the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler could be safer, the Bronco has better scores.

The 2021 Ford Bronco is safer than the Jeep Wrangler

The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) has been doing what it does best, which is performing crash testing. While the 2021 Ford Bronco didn’t earn the Top Safety Pick award, it at least faired better than the 2021 Jeep Wrangler.

During various crash tests, the Ford Bronco earned a ‘Good’ rating in almost every category. This is the highest score vehicles can earn. It even performed well in the more challenging small-overlap tests.

How is the Bronco safer than the Wrangler?

The 2021 Ford Bronco only has a few safety setbacks to consider. It only earned an ‘Acceptable” rating when it came to the head restraints category. The neck of the test dummy experienced moderate force during the simulated rear-end crash. Acceptable is the second-highest rating.

Plus, the Bronco received a ‘Marginal’ rating for its headlights. This is the second-lowest rating, and it’s because the lights were weak around corners. Child seat LATCH anchor access was rated as ‘Acceptable”. This means that the latches could be mistaken for other equipment and might be difficult to access.

The 2021 Jeep Wrangler still received a ‘Good’ rating for most crash tests. It even received a higher score for the head restraints than the Bronco. However, it got a ‘Marginal’ rating for the driver’s small-overlap test.

Marginal is the third-highest score, followed by ‘Poor,’ which is the worst score a vehicle can receive. Also, the IIHS didn’t test the Wrangler for passenger-side small-overlap impacts. It could be better or worse than the Bronco.

Most of the headlights on the Jeep Wrangler earned a ‘Poor’ rating, and the best option only scored a ‘Marginal’ rating. So, if you want to see at night, the Bronco provides more visibility according to safety standards.

Last but not least, the Wrangler does have standard ford collision prevention systems, like the Bronco does.

Is the Jeep Wrangler still worth buying?

Yes, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler and 2021 Ford Bronco are both excellent options to consider for off-roading. While the Bronco received slightly better crash test scores, the Wrangler isn’t far behind.

Just keep in mind that boxy vehicles with higher centers of gravity may be prone to flipping a little easier. Always follow the speed limit and other traffic laws. Also, while off-roading, don’t push your limits.

Interestingly enough, the Jeep Wrangler has a higher reliability rating from Consumer Reports than the Ford Bronco. It has a score of three out of five, while the Bronco has a score of two out of five.

So, even if the Bronco is safer, it could be less reliable. If the Bronco markups are too high and the waiting list is too long, you can get a Wrangler for the time being. It has an excellent resale value if it doesn’t turn out to be your cup of tea.
