This Ford Bronco Needed a New Engine Before 100,000 Miles
Some vehicles can stand the test of time and others can’t. Today we are looking at how well one Ford Bronco model handled reaching 100,000 miles. While we’re proud of the Ford Bronco for making it this far, it faced a few concerning repairs along the way.
The 100,000-mile Ford Bronco faced a few problems
Congratulate the Ford Bronco for sticking around. The new generation has been around since 2021 and has finally had enough time to accrue real mileage on the odometer. But these SUVs aren’t holding up like the Toyota 4Runner so far.
Ethan Bryant bought a used 2021 Ford Bronco with about 4,000 miles on the odometer and has stuck with it. The two-door model equipped with the Sasquatch package has surpassed 100,000 miles while hitting the pavement and off-roading.
The 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque was mostly great for sending it and jumping dunes. However, it failed around 92,000 miles.
Ethan found that the engine would misfire between 65 and 70 mph and sounded a lot worse, like a two-cylinder.
A technician at a local Ford dealership discovered that spark plugs broke off in the second and fourth cylinders. They were slamming so hard against the pistons that it caused irreversible damage.
It took five months to get a new engine. You could blame the new engine tech or the driver. Either way, he was faced with a real bummer.
The other issues that the Bronco faced were minor. The frameless window becomes unsealed at 60 mph but he just ignores it.
The passenger-side headlight had to be replaced around 45,000 miles. Also, the running lights are prone to flickering.
Also, it’s only getting 11 mpg instead of the EPA-estimated 18 mpg combined, so maybe he’s sending it too often.
The engine repair made us nervous so we looked at the Bronco’s reliability rating. J.D.Power gave it a 75 out of 100, which is average. Scores between 70 and 80 are average while scores between 81 and 90 are above average.
The Jeep Wrangler earned an 84, so it seems like the Ford Bronco has some work to do.
