The battle between the Ford Bronco and the Jeep Wrangler rages on as the Bronco attempts to rival the Wrangler. Both of these off-roading SUVs have plenty of benefits to share.

For example, the Bronco has better manners on the pavement, and the Wrangler has a solid axle. But here’s a surprise! The 2022 Ford Bronco has a better resale value than the 2022 Jeep Wrangler.

Why does the 2022 Ford Bronco have the best resale value?

According to the J.D. Power 2022 AGL Residual Value Awards, the 2022 Ford Bronco has the best resale value in its segment. The Bronco defeated the 2022 Jeep Wrangler and the 2022 Toyota 4Runner for this top honor.

This is a bit of a shock, as the Jeep Wrangler has a significant reputation for holding most of its value. It’s often viewed as the SUV with the best resale value and the least amount of depreciation over five years.

The annual AGL Residual Value Awards measure which vehicles hold the highest percentage of their MSRP after three years of ownership. The team reached 284 vehicles based on used-vehicle performance, brand outlook, and product competitiveness.

The 2022 Bronco may have won because it demonstrates a high-reliability ranking, capable performance, comfortable ride, effective climate controls, and multiple options for drivers.

However, we wonder if availability plays a role. Due to the semiconductor chip shortage and other supply chain constraints, the Bronco has been experiencing massive delays. There could be fewer new and used models available.

The Jeep Wrangler may have lower prices than used models because it has a higher supply of vehicles. The new Bronco debuted in 2021, while the Wrangler has been around for decades.

There are only two model years of the Bronco available unless you find a classic model. Meanwhile, there are tons of used Wrangler models out there.

Is the Wrangler or Bronco more reliable?

One significant factor for resale value includes how reliable SUVs are. The 2022 Ford Bronco has a reliability rating of 77 out of 100 from J.D. Power. While anything between 91 and 100 is best, scores between 81 and 90 are great, and scores between 70 and 80 are average.

The 2022 Jeep Wrangler earned a reliability ranking of 83 out of 100. With the proper care and maintenance, the Jeep Wrangler can make it past 250,000 miles. Some owners have reported making it over 400,000 miles.

The Ford Bronco is expected to reach 200,000 miles before needing severe repairs. The older generation made it to about 100,000 miles before biting the dust. However, the new models still need more time to be put to the test.

Does the Bronco or Wrangler cost more?

The 2022 Ford Bronco starts at $31,300, and the top-spec Bronco Everglades trim increases the price to $53,000. You can opt for Bronco Raptor power for about $68,500.

You can get started with a 2022 Jeep Wrangler for about $29,995. The top-spec Unlimited Rubicon model takes the cost up to $45,800.

Also, the Wrangler offers a hybrid powertrain and a diesel engine, while the Bronco is sticking to traditional gas-powered options for now. You could argue that the Wrangler provides more variety.

The Bronco may have a higher resale value, but it has a more limited supply. The Wrangler could be more reliable, though.
