Ford to charge 2025 F-150 buyers $455 if they want a door entry keypad
An era ends: the 2025 Ford F-150 no longer includes Ford’s famous door entry keypad as standard equipment. Previously, the SecuriCode keypad came standard on the XLT trim and above, but now it’s only available as a dealer-installed option…and costs an extra $455. This change follows a trend seen in other Ford models, including the 2024 Ford Maverick, Escape, and Bronco Sport, which already shifted the keypad to an optional, dealer-installed feature.
The SecuriCode keypad is a convenient way for drivers to lock or unlock their vehicles using a personal code. Owners find it especially handy when they misplace keys, leave them inside the vehicle, or just need to load or unload without starting the vehicle. It first gained popularity in the 1980s and became an expected feature on many Ford models over the years, including the F-150.
However, Ford seems to be phasing out this feature. Despite its practicality, the automaker turned the standard feature off on the 2025 build page. Now, it’s an add-on rather than a built-in convenience. The decision might be driven by factors like declining usage or cost-cutting measures. Reception of the news on Reddit, thought, overwhelmingly exudes sadness at the shift away from the feature.
This is disappointing news for Ford enthusiasts, especially used F-150 truck buyers who appreciated the keypad’s security and ease of use. Still, the option remains available for those building and buying new…who are willing to pay over 400 bucks for it.
