Uh oh, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had to step in and give a Ford dealership a slap on the wrist. The Nebraska dealership was caught after installing diesel deletes on about 20 pickup trucks.

A Ford dealership faces consequences for diesel deletes

A little Ford dealership in Niobrara Nebraska is currently sitting in the corner to think about what it did! The EPA brought the hammer down after discovering 20 trucks with diesel deletes.

By doing so, Moody Motor Company was charged for accessory after the fact for a violation of the Clean Air Act. This was announced by a U.S. Attorney after the dealership’s trial on July 31.

The dealership didn’t produce the parts, but it did order and install them. As a result, the dealership faces a $39,741 fine and a $125 special assessment fee. It also got one year of probation.

Diesel deletes are aftermarket mods that remove certain parts from the exhaust system of a diesel truck, allowing it to breathe better.

But the restrictive exhaust components are essential for removing pollutants, so deleting them is a prohibited act under federal law.

Authorities were auditing a Diesel Performance of Texas in Dallas when they found documents that indicated the supplier sold the equipment to the dealership.

There were 14 purchase records for the Moody Motor Company. Then the dealership’s mechanic admitted to installing diesel deletes 20 times.

A relative of one of the dealer’s employees owned on of the trucks with the illegal mod. The owner explained that the truck was a trade-in and needed tons of work. It was easier to install the diesel delete than replace the sensors.

Diesel deletes are also often performed to improve trucks’ fuel economy, reliability,  increase hp, and increase torque.

But diesel delete kits void your truck’s warranty and mechanics may refuse to work on repairs. Plus, it increases harmful emissions and it’s a federal crime. You could face up to $5,000 per non-emissions part for installing a diesel delete.
