Y’all know that we love to speculate, and we have a new theory about the Ford Everest. It’s like the Ford Explorers’ cooler cousin but isn’t sold in the United States. However, Ford Explorer sales have been declining, and the Ford Everest was caught being tested in America. 

Is the Ford Everest replacing the Ford Explorer?

Maybe, this could just be a wild idea. Perhaps the Ford Everest will come to join the lineup beside the Ford Explorer. Currently, the Everest is sold in Asia, the Middle East, Central America, and the Bahamas. 

These are places where the Ford Bronco isn’t sold. So, Ford may keep the Everest and Bronco separate to avoid competing with each other. But we can’t stop thinking about it. The 2023 Ford Everest has been totally redesigned and shares a lot in common with the new Ford Ranger. 

What to expect with the 2023 Everest 

The 2023 Ford Everest is expected to debut soon. Until then, we only have spy photos and rumors to go on. While the images of the Everest shows the SUV heavily covered in camouflage, they still provide a few clues. 

It has the same C-shaped LED headlights that the remolded Ford Ranger has. They have a similar look the the the Ford Maverick too. So it’s the midsize SUV that fits right in with the new truck lineup. 

Spy photos also reveal a similar grille shape, but the front bumper and foglight housing have a slightly different shape. It’s riding on beefy alloy wheels too, and the rear taillights have a unique L-shape. 

The Everest rides on the same T6.2 platform as the new Ranger. Only the Everest uses a coil-sprung rear suspension instead of a leaf-spring setup. The Bronco also uses this platform, and the Ranger Raptor is expected to use the same coil spring setup. 

Some markets have different turbo-diesel engines to pick, and other markets will receive at least one gasoline option. The outgoing model uses a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine with 271 hp. That’s a pretty solid amount of power, but the United States may want more. 

The 2.3-liter four-cylinder standard engine in the Ford Explorer pumps out 300 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. The 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 cranks out 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. Explorer fans will tell you that this engine is plenty of fun. 

Why would the Everest replace the Explorer?

Because the 2023 Ford Everest shares a lot of components with the new Ford Ranger, it would be pretty easy to manufacturer together. However, we aren’t sure if the Evervest can pass the higher emission standards in America. 

Also, the Ford Explorer has faced a bit of trouble. It has one of out five predicted reliability rating from Consumer Reports. That could make buyers nervous. The Everest does have higher reliability scores in other countries. 

The Ford Explorer has been struggling with delving sales as well. But this doesn’t mean that people don’t want it. The ongoing semiconductor chip shortage caused limited availability, so there have been fewer models to buy. 

So, while the Ford Everest probably isn’t replacing the Ford Explorer, it could. It’d be easy to put in production here and may attract buyers with its refreshed look and off-roading capabilities. We can’t wait to see its debut.
