High price tag alert! If you want the 2022 Ford Expedition, then prepare your wallet. This beast won’t come cheap. So, let’s dig into what actually comes with the base model of the Ford Expedition to see if the high price is worth it. 

How much does the 2022 Ford Expedition cost? 

Are you ready? The 2022 Ford Expedition has an estimated MSRP of $51,000. This is only the Manufacturers’s Suggested Retail Price. That means the price is listed before dealership markups and destination fees have been added. 

Rivals like the 2022 Chevy Tahoe start at about $50,200. There isn’t exactly a cheap three-row SUV. But why does the Expedition cost about $800 more? It’s not in the luxury SUV class, despite being crafted with high-quality materials. 

What comes with the Ford Expedition base model? 

The 2022 Ford Expedition XL is the base model. It comes with a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine that provides 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. If you move up to the Platinum trim, you get 400 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. 

Also, if you upgrade to the Timberline trim or opt for the Stealth Performance Package, then you ger 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. 

On that note, RWD is standard across the board. We’ll update you once we learn how much adding 4×4 costs. The Platinum model with 4WD can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds. So, the XL is probably a few seconds slower due to having less horsepower. 

The Trailer Tow package is included with the Expedition XL. It can tow up to 9,300 lbs when equipped with the Heavy-Duty Tow Package, though. Without it, the Expedition can tow up to 6,000 lbs. 

Also, the base model rides on 18-inch wheels, while the Limited trims come with 20-inch wheels, and the Stealth Performance Package adds 22-inch wheels. But larger wheels may impact its ride quality. 

Does the Expedition base model have good features? 

The 2022 Ford Expedition does provide plenty of value, but the XL model only comes with enough seating for up to five adults. If you need the third row, then you’ll have to upgrade to the XLT trim. It has seating for eight passengers. 

Convenience features include keyless entry with push-button start, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and dual-zone automatic climate control. 

A 12-inch touchscreen comes standard, but you can upgrade to a massive 15.5-inch unit. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard, which is a nice perk. But, music fans may want to upgrade from the basic six-speaker stereo system to the 22-speaker Bang & Olufsen system. The 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot is included too. 

Standard safety features include automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring, rear-cross traffic alert, lane-keeping assistance, and automatic emergency braking. The surround-view camera, adaptive cruise control, BlueCruise tech, and more cost extra. 

So, the base model does include a few nice bells and whistles. But if you want leather seats, more power, more tech, and all of the safety features, you’ll have to go up a few trim levels. The Expedition may get pretty expensive in a hurry.
