If you’ve ever thought, “I wish I could shower in my car,” then you might be interested in Ford’s new concept SUV. The Ford Expedition Timberline Off-Grid is a concept car that’s going to be revealed at the Overland Expo East the weekend of October 9-10, 2021. The Ford Expedition Timberline Off-Grid is based on the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline, and dedicated to the overland lifestyle, which involves camping in the wilderness with your off-road vehicle. It’s the sort of thing that allows for people to become more immersed in nature, rather than just setting up shop at a campsite, and it’s becoming so big that car manufacturers are designing vehicles just for it. So what does the Expedition Timberline Off-Grid include, and is there any chance we’ll really see it anytime soon?

New Ford Timberline Off-Grid features include a shower

The 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline Off-Grid has everything a person would need for overlanding. According to Car and Driver, you could get most of these accessories at the Ford dealership, but the Ford Expedition Timberline Off-Grid would come with them. It’s got a Thule Tepui Explorer tent, a transmission shield, and perhaps best of all, a Wild Land portable privacy room shower. Yes, you could shower in your SUV. Or near your SUV, anyway.

There’s more for you overlanders, including a mattress that can sleep two, a storage unit, and a USB fan. There’s an independent battery so you can keep your gear charged and working. The concept will have a trailer which includes even more overlanding necessities, like a stove, a water tank, and even a water heater. You could live in this thing.

The exterior of the Expedition Off-Grid makes it clear it’s unlike other Expeditions

You would never confuse a Ford Expedition Timberline Off-Grid for any other Ford Expedition, because its exterior is unique. The concept Expedition Off-Grid will be painted in a color called “Forged Green,” which is a dark, woodsy color. In addition to that, Ford has wrapped the Expedition Off-Grid in a topographic design from CG Detroit. This gives the Ford Expedition Timberline Off-Grid a very overland feel, and distinguishes it from other SUVs.

The Off-Grid can off-road

The Ford Expedition Timberline Off-Grid wouldn’t be an overlanding SUV if it couldn’t off-road, but Ford made sure that it could do so easily. The Off-Grid has 12.6 inches of ground clearance, a full two inches more than the 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline. It also has 2.5-inch shocks to absorb the jolts of anything you may drive over in your travels. The Off-Grid’s tires are bigger too; while the regular Expedition Timberline has 33-inch Goodyear tires, the Off-Grid comes with 35-inch General Grabber all-terrain tires.

It’s too bad that the Ford Expedition Timberline Off-Grid is just a concept car, because it seems really cool. Still, even if you can’t actually buy one, you may be inspired to outfit your own 2022 Ford Expedition Timberline similarly, and give yourself the opportunity to experience nature without all the discomforts of nature, like cold water and sleeping on the ground. The Expedition Timberline Off-Grid will be displayed at Overland Expo East at Oak Ridge Estates in Arrington, Virginia. Then it will be at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show in Las Vegas, Nov. 2-5, 2021.
