Please protect your innocent and beloved truck from thieves. For years, the Ford F-150 led the list of the top 10 most stolen vehicles for unfortunate reasons. Some Ford F-150 features make it easier to steal.

Why is the Ford f-150 easy to steal?

First of all, in 2024, the Ford F-150 finally lost its title as the most stolen vehicle in America. The Kia Boys helped spread the trend of stealing older Hyundai and Kia models, making the Hyundai Elantra the most stolen vehicle in 2023.

Roughly 48,445 Elantra models were stolen in 2023, followed by the Hyundai Sonata at 42,813, and Kia Optima at 30,204. The Ford F-150 was the ninth most stolen vehicle in 2023 with a total of 15,582 models reported.

According to Insurify, 2018 – 2020 Ford F-150 models equipped with a push-button start are susceptible to relay attacks.

This means that criminals can use an antenna or receiver to boost the key fob signal outside someone’s home. The truck thinks the owner is starting it, so it allows thieves to get away.

To protect themselves from relay attacks, people are putting their key fobs in foil bags to block the signal.

Older F-150 models are equipped with ignition sources under the steering column. They can quickly access wires from the the steering column or the rod leading to the ignition switch, to quickly get the engine started up.

Also, older F-150 trucks have door handles that are easy to unscrew. Within seconds thieves can hop in the cab for a relay attack or to hotwire the truck.

The Ford F-150 is a massive target for thieves because it’s the most popular truck in America. It’s high in demand. Plus, thieves can part out the trucks to sell to those who need a certain repair.

Items like the mirrors, tires, wheels, bumpers, headlights, and taillights commonly face product shortages and are expensive to replace. So, finding the part you need on the black market can save time and money.

To prevent thieves from targeting your truck, park in well-lit areas, make sure the windows and doors are all closed and locked before walking away, and never leave your keys in the truck or leave your truck running as you walk away.
