The Ford F-150 Hybrid Left the F-150 Raptor in the Dust
The fastest Ford truck might surprise you. While it seems like the Ford F-150 Raptor is the beefiest option, the Ford F-150 Hybrid is actually the faster truck. That’s a little disappointing, especially when you consider the costs of upgrading to the Raptor.
Ford F-150 Hybrid vs. Ford F-150 Raptor
We know that the Ford F-150 Raptor is built to tackle off-roading challenges instead of being a street performance truck. However, we didn’t expect the Raptor to be slower than the Ford F-150 Hybrid.
But according to Edmunds, the Raptor can’t outrace the Hybrid. While accelerating from 0 to 60 mph, the F-150 Hybrid is about 0.1 seconds faster than the Raptor. Then it gets closer and closer to catching the Ram 1500 TRX over longer distances.
Ford trucks can reach 60 mph in about 5.8 seconds, while the Ram 1500 TRX hits 60 mph in about 4.2 seconds. Then the F-150 Hybrid can reach 75 mph in about 8.2 seconds, and the TRX gets there in 6.2 seconds.
In the quarter-mile tests, the PowerBoost Hybrid traveled a quarter-mile in 14.1 seconds, but the Ram 1500 TRX crossed the finish line in 12.7 seconds. Meanwhile, the F-150 Raptor was left in the dust.
Does the F-150 Raptor or F-150 Hybrid have more power?
The 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor is equipped with a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine with 450 hp and 510 lb-ft torque. It can tow up to 8,200 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,400 lbs.
With the 2022 Ford F-150 PowerBoost Hybrid, you get a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 430 hp and 570 lb-ft of torque. That’s a reduction of 20 hp but an additional 60 lb-ft of torque! It can tow up to 12,700 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,120 lbs.
The 2022 Ram 1500 is ridiculous with its supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine that cranks out 702 hp and up to 650 lb-ft of torque. It can tow up to 8,100 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,310 lbs.
Perhaps weight and size affect these trucks differently. The Ram 1500 TRX comes in at 6,439 lbs. The F-150 Hybrid weighs between 4,465 to 5,014 lbs. The Ford F-150 Raptor has a 5,740 lbs curb weight.
Is the F-150 Raptor getting more power?
The 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R is reportedly gaining more muscle. Rumors suggest that it will use the 5.2-liter V8 Predator engine from the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. In the Mustang, it cranks out 760 hp and 625 lb-ft of torque.
The engine will be tuned differently in the Ford F-150 Raptor, but it’s expected to leave the PowerBoost Hybrid in the dust. It could have higher figures than the Ram 1500 TRX, but unfortunately, we will have to wait for the official specs.
Until then, you can save with the F-150 Hybrid. It starts at around $43,040. Meanwhile, the 2022 F-150 Raptor begins at about $69,525. Plus, you’ll save some fuel with the Hybrid.
