Electric vehicles are still in their infancy, especially for many automakers new to everything EV. This means that there is a clear learning curve for many automakers. Mistakes will be made and result in many recalls. Over-the-air updates can now fix and patch many software bugs, eliminating the need to take a trip to the dealer, but recalls can still be tedious.

Ford Mustang Mach-E buyers learned the hard way that Ford electric vehicles still have some growing to do before they can be considered reliable. A year after the Mach-E nameplate shocked the world and won multiple awards for electric vehicle of the year, it’s due for a mass recall.

Some Mustang Mach-E models have the potential to accelerate and decelerate without warning. Some can become completely immobile. According to Car and Driver, a total of 48,924 Ford Mustang Mach-E electric SUVs are part of the current recall. Will the Ford F-150 Lightning suffer the same fate and suffer similar software issues?

The Ford F-150 Lightning could experience similar software issues to the Mustang Mach-E, like many other electric vehicles. Telsa only produces EVs, and their electric vehicles still have their fair share of software issues. Living in a world where every F-150 Lighting model coming off the Blue Oval’s production line is perfect sounds great, but it may not be reality.

No one knows whether the Ford F-150 Lightning will have software issues or not, but one thing is for sure. Ford will address any Ford F-150 Lightning issues as quickly as possible, as it has done with the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

The Blue Oval will use Mustang Mach-E problems as a learning experience and be more aware of potential issues that the fully-electric pickup truck could face in the future. Similar issues could be solved by similar software patches and over-the-air updates.

If you’re concerned that Ford electric vehicles won’t be reliable, then you can at least count on a rapid response from the Blue Oval when word of an issue does get out. The Ford F-150 Lightning may not have any issues, but if it does, Ford will be ready and waiting to get electric truck drivers back on roads as quickly and safely as possible.
