What Now? The Ford F-150 Lightning Is Going Back Into Production
After some issues surrounding its batteries, the Ford F-150 Lightning is set to reenter production. Back in February, production was temporarily halted in order to figure out what was going wrong with this electric truck. But it looks like the Blue Oval has found a fix. The F-150 Lightning has been extremely popular. So, resuming production will help Ford get this EV into the hands of consumers.
Is the F-150 Lightning available?
Ford’s electric truck, the F-150 Lightning, is in production, but actually getting one is going to be difficult. Unless you placed an initial order for one, the Blue Oval has struggled to keep up with demand. And that is especially true after the company was forced to place a pause on production to deal with potential battery issues.
Much like the Maverick, the Ford Lightning has proven itself to be a popular truck. And although the Lightning rides on the same platform as the regular F-150, complications can be fairly common when building an EV. And that is even more true for the batteries that get used.
According to Car and Driver, a quality issue was detected with the batteries. Now, the Blue Oval did not disclose exactly what that is, but apparently, the team has been working to figure it out. Now, production is expected to restart on March 13. So hopefully, that means more folks will receive their electric truck order.
The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning is extremely popular
As Ford’s first electric truck, the F-150 Lightning sparked excitement from the moment it was introduced. And it does not look like that popularity is going anywhere soon. Folks seem to really appreciate the fact that you can get an EV with the practicality of a pickup truck. Even if the Ford Lightning has faced some price increases and problems with quality control.
The maximum range of this EV truck is 320 miles. But the cheapest option has a range of 230 miles. Compared to other EVs, that might not seem like a lot of range. But, other trucks in this segment do not fair much better.
Overall, outside of cost, there don’t seem to be a lot of compromises between the Lightning and the gas-powered F-150. Perhaps the biggest one is actually being able to get one. Due to high demand, ordering one feels nearly impossible right now.
Is the Ford Lightning worth it?
As an electric truck, this Ford pickup does bring a lot to the table. It really does feel and look like a regular pickup truck, despite being powered by batteries instead of an internal combustion engine.
At the end of the day, though, a product like this is only great if people can actually buy one. And until the Blue Oval is able to ramp up production, that might be a bit of an issue. But hey, at least this EV is actually in production and getting delivered. That is more than can be said for some of the other electric truck hopefuls.
