The Ford F-150 Lightning Is Going to Europe
Since its introduction, the Ford F-150 Lightning has been a popular electric truck. It marks the Blue Oval’s first foray into the battery-powered pickup market, and it’s based on the traditional F-Series truck. And now, the Ford Lightning is making its way to the European market, first starting in Norway.
Will the Ford F-150 Lightning be sold in Europe?
Apparently, Ford is going to export its electric pickup truck across the Atlantic for sale in European countries. Much like the demand for the Ford Lightning is high here in the States, it is also in demand in other countries. And the F-150 Lightning’s first stop will be in Norway.
Initial rumors pointed to Germany getting this EV pickup first, but it looks like Norway got the luck of the draw. It will be available in limited numbers, and it will be offered as the Lightning Lariat Launch Edition. Because of Norway’s harsh climate, the Blue Oval is taking steps to ensure the Lightning can be successful.
EVs are already extremely popular in Norway. In fact, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is one of the best sellers in the country. That might be a surprise to us in America because the weather in Norway can get quite cold. But apparently, electric vehicles have been able to handle Norwegian lifestyles just fine.
According to Electrek, 21% of all vehicles in Norway are BEVs, with 80% of new vehicle sales being electric. Those are pretty impressive numbers, and it makes sense that the Blue Oval wants to cash in.
The Ford Lightning is going overseas
The director of Ford Norway, Per Gunnar, sounds fairly excited to get the Ford F-150 Lightning in the country. That makes sense because it’s a rugged country where pickup trucks are well-suited to operate.
It sounds like when it comes to new vehicles, a majority of buyers are interested in the benefits of EVs. So an electric Ford truck will be able to satisfy that want. As it stands, just a limited amount of Lightning models will be available. But, Nordic customers can submit an application to get one.
If the Ford F-150 Lightning winds up being as popular in Norway as projected, Ford will certainly need to step up production. This electric truck is already limited here in the States; I have to imagine it’s going to be fairly hard to get in a foreign country.
Why is Ford’s electric truck popular?
The Ford F-150 Lightning is popular because it offers a practical way to get an electric vehicle. Here in America, we love our trucks. The F-Series pickup is often one of the best-selling pickups in the country.
Although sales of the gasoline-powered F-150 probably aren’t going to drop any time soon, for folks who want to make the EV jump, there’s the Lightning.
We don’t know how many examples of this model will be made available to Norway. But this is likely the first step to getting the Lightning into more European countries.
