Ford F-150 Lightning Keeps $7,500 EV Tax Credit for 2024, but You’ll Pay It Right Back Anyway
The Ford F-150 Lightning is one of the few vehicles still eligible for this year’s $7,500 federal EV tax credit. However, the base Lightning Pro’s price is rising from $49,995 to $54,995. Add that $5k hike to Ford’s $2,095 mandatory destination fee, and you’re right back where you started.
While the base Lightning Pro sees a price jump, the higher-level trims will get a reduced MSRP over 2023. The F-150 Lightning Platinum will show a $7,000 reduction, and the Platinum Black a $5,000 decrease. Although at $91,995, you’ll pay close to six figures for increased performance and more advanced tech.
The cheapest long-range trim from 2023, the XLT 312-A, started at $69,995 but is being eliminated in 2024. In exchange, the Flash, a new offering that keeps the 320-mile range, will start at $73,495.
Overall, the Ford F-150 Lightning is still the cheapest new EV pickup truck option for U.S. buyers. It’s also the only EV pickup qualifying for the tax break in 2024. According to iSeeCars, the average EV truck price in 2023 was over $73,000. After the F-150 Lightning, the Rivian R1T starts at $73,000.
With non-EV F-150 trims ranging from $36,570 for the XL to $77,980 for the Raptor, EV prices remain a sticking point for many new car shoppers.
