If you had your eyes on a new 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro or XLT trim, there’s good news and bad news. The good news is that there are still other trims to choose from, albeit more expensive trims. The bad news is that the Pro and XLT models are completely sold-out. That’s right if you haven’t already made a preorder then no F-150 Lightning Pro or XLT for you.
What hurts most about this news is that the two sold-out trims are the most affordable trim levels. This means that the only options left for consumers that didn’t place pre-orders are options that start above $67,000. That’s a considerable chunk of change. The available Lariat trim is $27,500 more than the base model Pro trim. It costs $14,500 more than the XLT trim.
This isn’t a great look for consumers but it’s tough to imagine that the Blue Oval doesn’t see this extreme demand as a success. Ford is already looking to ramp up production on the F-150 Lightning in the future, and that still may not be enough to quench America’s extreme thirst for the first electric Ford pickup truck.
According to InsideEVs, Ford has 200,000 reservations for the electric truck. This sounds like another shipping nightmare reminiscent of the Bronco shipping debacle. If Ford manages to pull off deliveries as smoothly as possible, then its new nameplate will truly take America by storm.
