The Ford F-150 Pickup Truck Outsold 31 Brands, Including Tesla, Jeep, and Nissan
While plenty of new cars, trucks, and SUVs are available in the U.S., buyers seem content with just a few options. On Kelley Blue Book’s Light Vehicle Sales Report for Q3 2022, the opinion on the Ford F-150 pickup truck was clear. People really like this Ford pickup truck and about 29 other alternatives.
People bought 167,962 Ford F-150 pickup trucks in Q3 2022
Even with more than 275 options available, buyers tend to stick with a few vehicles overall. In fact, Kelley Blue Book said buyers mostly stuck to the top 30 cars, trucks, and SUVs. Buyers in the U.S. purchased 167,962 units of the Ford F-150 pickup truck in Q3 2022. The worst-selling model on the list? The Fiat 124, selling only 17 units throughout the quarter.
Sales for the F-150 pickup truck outsold entire brands like Jeep, Nissan, and Tesla, sold fewer vehicles than Ford sold F-Series trucks. The top three selling vehicles are all trucks, too. The Ford F-Series followed the Ram pickup truck with 118,106 sales and the Chevrolet Silverado with 114,963 units.

Other trucks on the list include the Toyota Tacoma, the GMC Sierra, and the Toyota Tundra. While electric versions of some of these trucks are on the way, Ford already has the advantage of a hybrid and electric version. Since hitting the market, the F-150 Lightning electric truck has been a big seller.
While the Ford F-150 pickup truck was number one, people like SUVs
Midsize SUVs made up 22% of new vehicles sold in the year’s third quarter, followed by compact SUVs with 20%. Full-size pickup trucks were in third with 14% of recent vehicle sales. The Toyota RAV4 SUV was the top-selling option, moving 102,456 units.
The Honda CR-V was up next, with 62,085 units sold. Kelley Blue Book says that the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 are the only luxury vehicles on the list. Ford’s Explorer SUV, the Jeep Wrangler, and the Chevy Equinox are some other popular SUVs.
While the list of 30 vehicles isn’t everything Americans buy, these make up only 11% of the total new car sales.
Toyota sold some of the most popular cars, trucks, and SUVs
Toyota came out ahead as the most popular brand in the top 30. The vehicles on the list include the Toyota RAV4 SUV, Camry, Tacoma, Highlander, Corolla, and Tundra. That speans the list of cars, trucks, and SUVs. Toyota is known for reliable vehicles that last long, in miles and years. While there are plenty of choices on the market (275, to be exact), buyers stick with what they know.
For now, Ford is on top with the F-150 pickup truck sales. Sales of the F-150 Lightning electric truck continue to rise, and the gasoline-powered F-150 doesn’t appear to be slowing down at all.
