The Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 Face the Same Detrimental Problem
Two trucks are fighting the same problem. While the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 are rivals, they might want to consider teaming up to turn things around. Both of these popular pickup trucks struggle with declining sales.
The Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 have declining sales
The year is off to a rocky start for the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500 as sales continue to plummet. The first half of the year hasn’t been kind as the 1500 plans to drop V8 engines and the F-150 launched a mid-cycle refresh.
During the first and second quarter of 2023, the F-150 moved 382,893 trucks. But during the first half of 2024, it only sold 352,406 trucks for a -8% sales decrease.
In the first half of 2023, the Ram 1500 sold 223,049 trucks while it only sold 179,526 trucks in the first and second quarter of 2024. This is a -19.5% decrease.
However, the Chevy Silverado 1500 sold 264,070 models in the first half of 2023 and 272,435 trucks in the first half of 2024 for a 3.2% increase.
The Toyota Tundra moved 59,735 models in the first half of 2023 and 78,454 trucks during the first half of 2024 for a 31,3% increase.
While the Ram truck, Silverado 1500, and Tundra are still pretty far behind the F-150, it is time to panic? Ford is probably mildly panicking because it’s still the most popular truck by far.
However, the Ram 1500 has the largest sales decline and it’s pretty concerning. Perhaps the elimination of the Ram 1500 TRX and every V8 engine is coming back to bite. But people could be waiting for the brand new 2025 Ram 1500 to arrive.
The Ram 1500 has an MSRP of $39,420, making it one of the more expensive options. But the F-150 starts at $36,965 with a slow sales decline.
You can chalk up declining F-150 sales due to a slow production start for the new F-150. However, things are back on track for the second half of the year.
Also, you could say the lack of engine options is hurting Ram, but the Tundra is also limited and has increasing sales. Although, it’s a bit embarrassing for the Tundra to be so far behind the rest of the pack.
