Ford F-150 Recall: Your Windshield Might Fall off
There’s good news and bad news. The good news is that the latest Ford F-150 recall impacts a relatively small number of trucks. The bad news is that the recall is ridiculous because the windshield might fall off.
2024 Ford F-150 recall alert: Windshields are falling off
Getting a crack in your windshield is bad enough, but what if your entire windshield randomly fell off? That’s a real risk according to the latest Ford F-150 recall.
Only 4,361 trucks are involved with about 5% of affected models, so your risk of losing your windshield is low, but it’s still possible. If you have my luck, your windshield is already gone.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the trucks involved were produced between April 28 and May 2, 2024.
They could have faulty front windshield adhesion, which may cause the windshields to break loose from the body structure.
During said production dates, Ford’s windshield positioning equipment malfunctioned, causing a variating windshield placement during the urethan bead application process.
As a result, these F-150 models no longer meet the requirements set by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard.
If your truck is involved then you may notice excess urethane sealer around the A-pillar of the driver’s side and inside the passenger side. Other signs of failure include high-pitched wind noises and water leaks.
As of mid-June, Ford is unaware of any warranties, field reports, complaints, or injuries related to the issue.
Ford will begin notifying affected owners this week. To correct this issue you will need to take your F-150 to a local dealership for service. The windshield will be reinstalled free of charge.
If the molding is damaged during this process, then Ford will replace the entire windshield, and the cameras will be recalibrated if necessary.
You can visit the NHSTA site to enter your truck’s vehicle identification number to see if it’s at risk right now! Stay tuned for updates about this 2024 Ford F-150 recall.
