The Ford F-150 is the best-selling half-ton pickup truck in the United States. Built for work and play, the F-150 surpasses the competition. U.S. News ranks the 2020 Ford-150 at the top of their list for best full-size pickup trucks and Kelley Blue Book named the Ford F-150 as the “Best Buy” for the sixth year in a row.

Where the F-150 seems to lack is in the availability of standard features, which may end up hurting the overall value of America’s favorite truck.

The 2020 Ford F-150

In 2015, Ford completely overhauled the F-150 and started using aluminum-alloy for body construction. New engine and transmission options became available, and updated features kept the truck competitive in its segment.

The 2020 Ford F-150 doesn’t come with any major changes, although there has been some reconfiguration of the available options. A forward-collision warning system and automatic emergency braking feature became standard in the current model of all F-150s.

There are plenty of options available in the 2020 Ford F-150, but not many standard features are included in the base price. Things like adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist have been discontinued and are now part of optional mid-grade and luxury packages. 

Cars.com took a look at the 2020 Ford F-150 and really enjoyed the truck, although they did notice that a real update hasn’t happened in a long time.

A much-needed update is expected in 2021

There has not been a total redesign since 2015, making the evolution of the 2021 Ford F-150 a highly anticipated vehicle in the midsize truck market. Feeling pressure from competitors that are introducing new and improved models, Ford was obliged to upgrade the F-150 to retain its top-selling status.

The front of the all-new 2021 Ford F-150 base model appears to be more in line with the limited edition premium models. The grill has been enlarged, with brushed chrome accents, a huge LED signature, and a single bar replaces the traditional double bar that runs across the front of the truck.

Aerodynamics seems to be improved in the 2021 model with a redesigned hood. The front bumper looks similar to the 2020 edition but has two different chin extension spoilers that will allow for better fuel efficiency.

The pre-production prototype is in the works and availability of the 2021 Ford F-150 redesigned truck is expected in late 2020.

Why the F-150 is the best-selling truck in America

The beloved Ford F-150 is known for its towing power, capable of handling between 5,000 and 13,200 pounds, dependent upon what engine is under the hood. With a 2.7-liter turbocharged six-cylinder, the fuel economy is 20/26/22 MPG.

The enlarged cabin area offers plenty of room for passengers, with under the seat storage in the backseat. The design of the 2020 Ford F-150 lets drivers feel like they are maneuvering a smaller truck, comparable to driving an SUV. The agility, responsive steering, and quick reaction are what consumers love most about the popular pickup.

The biggest problem with the 2020 Ford F-150

The 2020 Ford F-150 base model falls short in its lack of advanced safety features for a truck in this price segment. There are not many standard features that are included in the base price.

The interior also lacks quality compared to other trucks that are similarly priced. The use of cheap plastic on the steering wheel, dashboard, and doors create an outdated look. Consumers expect a higher level of luxury in a $30,000 truck.

Despite the lack of standard features, this truck still remains competitive and is a solid choice for a quality pickup truck.
