Experiencing death wobbles is never fun, especially in a Ford F-250 and 350. It can create a terrifying experience on something as small as a skateboard, so things are a lot more intense in a heavy-duty truck. But is the death wobble in the Ford F-250 and F-350 a serious problem? 

Do the Ford F-250 and F-350 have a death wobble? 

It’s time to put our investigation hats on to see if Ford F-250 and F-350 models have a death wobble. About 50 drivers contacted Charlotte Action 9‘s Jason Stoogenke about the issue. Viewers reached out to Stoogenke after he began reporting on the Ford Super Duty class-action lawsuit. 

The lawsuit allegedly mentions that the Ford Super Duty trucks have defective suspension components and steering linkage systems that led to a phenomenon known as the death wobble. 

Death wobble occurs randomly when the front end of the truck begins to vibrate as well as the steering wheel in the hands of the driver. No known deaths have been caused by this issue, but there are 12 reports of related injuries. Also, the lawsuit covers Super Duty models from 2005 to 2019. 

Who is reporting Ford F-350 death wobbles? 

Tons of drivers have been reporting death wobble issues. Andy Smith shared that he was driving his 2010 F-250 on the freeway when the steering wheel just started vibrating like the front wheels were about to fall off. 

Steve Oberstar was driving his 2018 Ford F-350 with his eight-year-old son when the death wobble struck. He was going about 65 mpg and hit an expansion joint on a bridge and thought he blew a tire. 

On CarComplaints, the death wobble is the most common issue listed for the F-250. The second most common complaint involves the truck shaking and loss of control. Then the third most prevalent complaint involves hyper-shaking. 

Over 1,200 people have filed complaints with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) related to the issue. One driver even shared that it was the worst violent shaking they’ve ever felt in a vehicle. 

Is Ford issuing a recall for the F-250 and 350? 

Owners of the Ford F-250 and F-350 hope that Ford issues a recall to address death wobble issues. It can make the trucks unsafe to operate on the road, but Ford hasn’t commented on the subject. 

While Ford hasn’t issued a recall, a few owners may have received a letter in the mail. The letter said if your truck has sustained steering wheel oscillation after hitting rough pavement or an expansion joint at high speeds typically above 45 mph, bring it to the dealership. 

The steering linkage damper will be replaced for free, and the process takes about half a day. That’s interesting because that seems like Ford knows what’s exactly causing the issue. But they made no mentions of a death wobble. 

A few owners have had their steering linkage damper replaced, and they are pleased with the results. The trucks seem brand new and aren’t experiencing any death wobbles for now. This may be your best course of action for the time being.
