Ford F-Series Truck Sales Slam Dunk Over Subaru Lineup in 2023
Recent sales data shows that the Ford F-Series truck is outselling the entire Subaru lineup so far in 2023. Ford’s F-Series includes multiple models like the F-150 through F-650, but Subaru also has eight vehicles in the lineup. The Ford F-Series trucks are best-sellers
Drivers are serious about Ford trucks, that’s for sure. Recent sales data shows that F-Series trucks outsold all 2023 Subaru models available this year. The F-Series includes eight sub-models, including the F-150 and Super Duty trucks. Subaru also has eight different models covering sedans and SUVs. Data from GoodCarBadCar shows that the F-Series has sold 626,879 units through October 2023. Subaru’s eight models have moved 520,992 units through October 2023.

I can’t find any data showing exactly how the F-Series sales break down. Ford’s Q3 2023 Sales Release notes that Lightning sales were 12,260 for the year at publication. The Lightning is the all-electric version of the F-150, but Ford also offers a hybrid powertrain. The automaker does not include F-150 Lightning sales as part of the F-Series sales numbers.
Sales for Ford F-Series trucks surpass all Subaru models
Subaru has a slightly more diverse lineup than the Ford trucks, with SUVs and cars. All those models are listed above, but the Subaru Crosstrek and Forester are pretty popular models. The Subaru Impreza is the better-selling sedan from the brand. Subaru reported sales through October, as did Ford, so these numbers are pretty up-to-date.

Even though shoppers like Subaru cars and SUVs, there is a clear preference for trucks. More specifically, Ford trucks and the Ford F-Series trucks. Ford also offers the Maverick and Ranger, which are popular but nowhere near the volume of the F-150. American drivers have made pickup trucks the best-selling vehicle for many years, but the F-Series models are a big part of that.
Ford’s trucks are popular with US drivers
In January, Ford reported that the F-Series was the best-selling truck for 46 years in a row. Ford says it is the best-selling vehicle out of all segments for 41 years, which means Ford is selling an F-Series every 49 seconds in 2022. Subaru doesn’t have trucks, so comparing it to Ford trucks is sort of apples to oranges, but it makes sense when you look at the numbers as a whole. The love of pickup trucks probably isn’t going anywhere, even as shoppers work electric vehicles into the mix.
