As time progresses, Ford electric vehicles are becoming more and more popular. But up until now, EV development has been focused on cars and crossovers. That is all about to change once the Ford F-150 Lightning arrives. The Lightning is set to be Ford’s first EV truck and it is based on the popular full-size F-150. And, this electric truck may mark a new victory for EV models. Success in rural areas such as the Midwest and beyond. Which is an area where EVs haven’t caught on as much as they have in other parts of the United States.

The Ford F-150 Lightning is an electrified version of Ford’s popular pickup truck. The F-series has been one of the most popular trucks for some time. And as the automotive industry shifts to embrace EV technology, it only makes sense that Ford is going to give it an electric powertrain.

With the F-150 Lightning, truck buyers can expect modern features like driver-assist technology, an available estimated range of 320 miles, and a 15.5-inch touchscreen. But, Ford also knows that F-150 buyers want a pickup with serious utility, which the F-150 Lightning will also have. Ford estimates that with proper rationing, the 2022 Ford Lightning can power a house for up to 10 days. Which is seriously impressive.

Will the Ford F-150 Lightning win in the Midwest?

According to Nebraska Public Media, the 2022 Ford Lightning has been causing quite a stir in the Midwest. While charging infrastructure could use improvement, and hopefully, that is coming, some Midwesterners can see the practicality of an EV truck. Especially when it means not having to deal with high gas prices at the pump.

The Ford Lightning EV truck is not here yet, but there is promise that it could win in rural areas. The base Lightning will have a starting price of under $40,000 and will also have the ability to benefit from Federal Tax Credits. But, in true F-150 fashion, there will be higher-end models. We could easily see the top-trim 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum selling for over $100,000.

Should you pre-order this EV pickup truck?

Currently, reservations are closed for the Ford F-150 Lightning, but it is still a truck worth watching. You can contact Ford or your local dealership in order to get updates on when the F-150 Lightning may be available for more pre-orders. But with the current market causing shortages of everything from the Ford Maverick to other vehicles, it may take a bit of patience to get your Lightning.

That said, a new EV Ford truck is something that we find worth waiting for. It will have ample range and legitimate utility, which shows that even EV models can come equipped ready to get the job done. And the Lightning may demonstrate that a full-size truck does not require a large-displacement V8 engine. Which, as much as we love traditional combustion engines, may be a good thing.
