The latest Ford recalls include 2013 to 2016 Fusions. The recalls are safety-related, so Fusion owners should mind the specifics and get the fix as soon as possible. Ford isn’t specifying a trim level, so every Ford Fusion built during the three-year period might likely be affected. 

What problems do Ford Fusions have?

The 2013 to 2016 Ford Fusions feature a faulty bushing attached to the shifter cable. The bushing may fail, causing drivers to believe that their Fusion is in park, when it really isn’t. As a result, Ford Fusions with the faulty bushing could roll away and may cause serious injury. 

What can Ford Fusion owners do about the recall and the roll-away problem? 

Ford recommends using the parking brake every time a Fusion owner parks their car. Additionally, Fusion owners should bring their vehicles in to a Ford Service Center to have the cars repaired. 

How is Ford fixing the latest recall?

Ford says Fusion owners can bring recalled vehicles to a service center to replace the faulty bushing. According to Consumer Reports, Ford will replace the bushing with a non-faulty component and install a protective cap. Fusion drivers can breathe easier, though, because Ford rightfully isn’t going to charge anything for the fix. 

What are other vehicles prone to rolling away in park? 

According to USA Today, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that Ford included nearly 3 million vehicles in the recent recalls. However, not every Ford included in these recalls is prone to rolling away in park. The faulty bushing recalls include Ford Escapes from 2013 to 2019, Ford C-Max from 2013-2018, Ford Transit Connect Vans from 2013-2021, and 2015 to 2018 Ford Edges.  

In addition to the bushing issues, Ford issued recalls for the Mustang, the Mustang Mach-E, the Bronco, and the F-series pickup truck. These vehicles have problems like driver assist technology issues and missing safety labels. 

What other Ford Fusion recalls are there?

The 2013 and 2014 Ford Fusions each have 17 recalls. Specifically, the cars have recalls for the last five years for door latches, steering hardware, leaks, and a cylinder head cracking concern. The later model years have fewer recalls, but that doesn’t mean Ford technicians shouldn’t fix open recalls.
