The saga of the delayed Ford Bronco appears to be continuing. Earlier this week, buyers of the revamped Ford Bronco received what was probably a pretty frustrating letter from Ford. Not only is the 2021 Ford Bronco still facing some major delays because of the coronavirus, but some buyers of the SUV may not even get a 2021 model after all.  

To the surprise of no one, the Ford Bronco continues to face delays

Earlier this month, Ford announced that the 2021 Ford Bronco would be delayed by several months. The delay resulted in Ford pushing the SUV’s original spring delivery date into the summer of 2021. According to Forbes, the delays can be attributed to coronavirus-related supplier delays. Unfortunately for some Bronco buyers, that could create some issues.

In a letter obtained by Torque News, Ford shared an updated timeline that could push back when buyers of the Bronco can actually finalize their purchase of the vehicle. The letter explains, “While we originally communicated that your Ford Dealer would begin reaching out in December to schedule an order consultation and place your order, this process will now begin in mid January and extend through mid March.” 

The automaker further explained that it wouldn’t forecast production of the Bronco until May 2021, when it has reviewed all submitted orders. The automaker added that each buyer’s “reservation timestamp,” rather than the date they placed their order, will determine when their SUV is manufactured. Once orders have been reviewed, however, the automaker anticipates that the new Bronco’s initial customer deliveries will kickstart during the summer of 2021.  

Some owners may be getting a 2022 model instead

Unfortunately for some Ford Bronco buyers, Ford’s letter came with even more disappointing news. Seeing that the Bronco is in such high demand, Ford anticipates some customers won’t be getting a 2021 Ford Bronco at all, even if they did reserve one. Instead, the automaker says that some buyers will be getting a 2022 model year Bronco. “Given demand, we anticipate deliveries to continue through the 2022 calendar year, with some customers getting a 2022 model year Bronco,” the letter explained.

While these continued delays are rather unfortunate, Ford is ready to thank Ford Bronco buyers for their patience. And in hopes of making the wait a tad more bearable? The automaker is doling out $300 in FordPass Rewards points. Ford says that these points can be put toward maintenance, service, and accessories. Fortunately, the Ford Bronco is available with a ton of accessories. So, if you’re finding yourself growing impatient, perhaps browsing the Bronco accessory catalog would make for a good distraction.

Is the 2021 Bronco worth the wait?

There’s no denying that there’s a ton of people chomping at the bit to get behind the wheel of the new Bronco. But is it actually going to be worth the wait? At this point, we’ll just have to wait and find out.
