The 2022 Ford Maverick is one of the hottest pickup trucks in today’s market. It comes with a standard hybrid powertrain and convenient sizing to help it fit into smaller environments. In fact, the Maverick has been so popular that Ford has placed a pause for customer orders of this compact truck. But, what does the future of the Ford Maverick hold? Could this pickup truck eventually get an electric powertrain, ideally the answer is yes.

Is the Ford Maverick electric?

The Ford Maverick does not currently have an electric powertrain. But, as buyers flock to the hybrid option, it is clear that small truck owners value efficiency that does not sacrifice too much efficiency. Although the Ford Maverick is not currently electric, it only makes sense that Ford would introduce an EV truck version of this model.

With the 2022 Ford Maverick, buyers have the option of two engine options. These include the base hybrid version with 191 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque and a turbocharged engine that makes 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, with the more potent engine, Maverick shoppers can outfit their pickup with all-wheel drive.

Recently, according to MotorTrend, Ford has teased a new EV truck. But Ford CEO Jim Farley was quick to note along with Ford’s PR team that the next EV truck from Ford will likely fall into the F-Series of trucks. This revelation places some doubt on how soon an electric Maverick will enter the market.

Ford is already making an electric version of the iconic F-150 model. So, it does make sense that the brand may explore electrifying other vehicles in its lineup. Especially considering that Ford was not shy about introducing an EV Mustang model.

In terms of pricing, the Ford Maverick does have a lot going for it right now. This compact pickup truck can be had for around $20,000, which makes it a highly affordable option. If the Ford F-150 Lightning or other EV trucks are too expensive, maybe an electric Maverick would be more budget-friendly.

How much would a Ford Maverick electric pickup truck cost?

The Ford F-150 Lightning is priced above the standard version, so the same would likely be true for the Maverick. We could see an electric Maverick truck costing around $30,000 for the base model, with higher trims going above that. Still, an EV Maverick truck would represent a solid value proposition. Especially if it maintains its utility and practicality.

An electric Ford Maverick is not yet available, but it would make sense for the brand to offer an EV version of this popular compact pickup truck. Ford has already been forced to place a pause on customer orders for the 2022 Maverick, so this truck is not having trouble finding buyers. Maybe an EV version would appeal even more to first-time truck buyers and those who live in urban environments. We know that we would be interested in getting behind the wheel of one.
