Back in December of 2021, Ford was forced to place a temporary pause on orders for the 2022 Maverick. With the popularity of this small pickup truck, supply would be unable to meet demand. This is fairly exciting if that means compact trucks are once again popular in the United States. Once new orders resume, orders placed will be for the 2023 model year. Despite this hiccup in supply for the new Ford small truck, the Maverick continues to win praises from owners and critics alike.

In December 2021, Ford made the decision to pause customer orders of the 2022 Ford Maverick. The initial pause just covered Ford Maverick models with the hybrid engine. But, in January of 2022, all customer orders of the Maverick were placed on hold.

Now, while there is a pause on customer orders, dealers are still able to receive allocations and place orders. Because of this, if you have a Ford dealership nearby, you may still be able to get your hands on a 2022 Ford Maverick. But, with the popularity of this small pickup truck, you could face some serious waitlists.

Should you wait for the 2023 Ford Maverick?

In the automotive world, first is not always best, once the 2023 Maverick is introduced, it is likely that Ford will make some minor updates to problem areas. Even with thorough testing by the manufacturer, issues can slip through the cracks. And as 2022 Ford Maverick owners report complaints or concerns, the brand can respond with solutions.

Potential upgrades for the 2023 Ford Maverick include things like pairing all-wheel drive with the hybrid engine, an optional Tremor package, and maybe even a street performance version. For some, these factors may be worth waiting for. Ultimately, the decision comes down to personal preference and patience. With a compact truck like the Maverick, waiting months and months to buy may be a difficult task.

When will the 2023 Maverick be released?

As a small truck, the Ford Maverick has gained success in a world where compact pickup trucks are popular again.

According to CarBuzz, orders for the 2023 Maverick will start on August 16th, 2022. Meanwhile, production is expected to start at some point in October of 2022. That said, dates like this are most certainly subject to change. Especially with supply chain issues and all of the other elements that come with producing a new vehicle.

Whether or not orders open up on the projected date, we expect the 2023 Ford Maverick to build on the success of the 2022 model. As a small pickup truck, the Maverick boasts relatively affordable pricing. Especially in a world where new trucks can easily sell above $50,000. With its base MSRP of around $20,000, the Maverick shows you don’t have to be expensive to be good.

Although 2022 Ford Maverick orders are closed, Ford is continuing to invest in its small truck. If you just have to have a Maverick now, there is always the secondary market. Or, you can try your luck at a dealership. But, waiting to place an order for the 2023 Maverick in August may be the best bet.
