The Ford Mustang Mach-E Is the Most Important Electric Vehicle
As parents, you’re never supposed to let your kids know which one is the favorite, but things are different in the auto industry. The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is clearly the current favorite EV. We can tell because the Ford Mustang Mach-E is being placed ahead of other projects.
Ford Mustang Mach-E production is increasing
Tell other electric vehicles to get out of the way. According to Pickup Truck Talk, the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E has been a tremendous success. Traditional Mustang fans might not like this news, but we can confirm that it’s one incredible SUV.
Ford CEO Jim Farley recently tweeted that Ford is expanding production to produce 200,000 units per year by 2023. That’s a pretty large number, but it’s necessary to keep up with demand. The 2021 model has more orders than Ford could produce.
To make room for a higher production volume, Ford is revaluating plans for other electric vehicles which were initially intended to be produced at the same plant.
Where is the Mustang Mach-E built?
The 2021 and 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E models are built at the Cuautitlan Assembly Plant (CAP) in Mexico. This plant cranks out Mustang Mach-Es as fast as Ford can sell them. The average model spends less than 12 days on the lot.
But two mystery models are losing out as production increases. A memo was sent to suppliers that listed two new electric SUVs that will be moved. The SUVs have the codenames CDX746 and CXD747.
They will be moved to a new location that hasn’t been named and will enter production in December 2024. So, we can gather that the Mustang Mach-E is seen as more valuable than these mystery options.
Rumors suggest that these models could be the Ford Explorer EV and the Lincoln Aviator EV. But Ford hasn’t confirmed these vehicles and never said they would be built in Mexico. Also, the code names could refer to the Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus instead.
This makes sense for the Explorer and Aviator because they share the same platform. They will be easy to manufacture together with shared parts. But either way, the Mustang Mach-E is still the favorite.
He Explorer and Aviator haven’t been making waves like the Mach-E. In fact, the Explorer has a pretty low-reliability rating that could make buyers nervous. No wonder the Mach-E is the star child.
What’s new for the 2022 Mach-E?
The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E could have a better range. The new battery packs have increased usable capacities to 70 kWh and 91 kWh. These figures are up from 68 kWh and 88 kWh. But they haven’t been tested by the EPA.
Plus, the battery ranges could be improved by reducing the Mach-E’s weight. Weight could be shaved by dropping the automatic parking pawl, switching to a single coolant reservoir, and by replacing rubber hoses with plastic lines.
