The Ford Mustang Mach-E Will Be Quebec’s First Electric Police Car
Quebec is getting some Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles as part of the new electric vehicle police fleet. The Ville de Repentigny-City of Repentigny chose the Mach-E as part of the new fleet to reduce the town’s carbon footprint. How will the town determine if the Mustang Mach-E is the right electric police car for the job?
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is part of a new pilit program in Quebec
According to the Ville de Repentigny press release, Repentigny will have Quebec’s first fully electric police car. The Service de police de Repentigny (SPVR) decided that a new addition to the fleet was necessary, and the Mach-E fit the bill. Working with Cyberkar, a company specializing in emergency vehicles, the SPVR modified the EV to fit its needs. That includes lots of new technology that a police car might require.
The Ville de Repentigny-City of Repentigny said that the interior ergonomics were redesigned with Cyberkar to get it ready for daily police use. While the Ford Mustang Mach-E has various safety features, it needed some tweaks to make it safer for officers. Plus, new features are necessary to make it comfortable for police to sit in for long periods.
On the outside, the actual Mustang Mach-E exterior shape won’t change much. The SPVR plans to add a colorful wrap of some kind to show that it is an emergency vehicle. Many European police cars already use these “Battenburg markings.” The Battenburg markings use bright and contrasting colors to make emergency vehicles stand out more against regular cars.
The police will use data gathered from the Ford Mustang Mach-E vehicles
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is a part of this project to see how the battery and range perform. Though these vehicles might not participate in high-speed chases frequently, some situations might arise where the Mach-E has to go far and fast. When these situations occur, the Mach-E will provide data to show if it is a good choice for emergency fleets.
“It will be tested in a real environment to assess battery performance and efficiency under different conditions of use, including situations that call for activating the flashing lights or swift acceleration.”

Stéphanie Fortier, Organizational Performance Consultant, City of Repentigny, commented on the project. “With testing just around the corner, our next aim will be to promote the all-electric car to other Quebec police forces. Ideally, a sufficiently strong interest will help drive down refitting costs and generate economies of scale through the purchase of many vehicles.”
Police cars run for extended periods all throughout the day, which can use a lot of fuel. The Ford Mustang Mach-E electric vehicle can help lower the environmental impact and eventually decrease fuel costs.
This isn’t the first electric police car and it certainly won’t be the last
Some police departments have already started testing out Tesla Model 3 electric vehicles. The New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services also has shown interest in purchasing 184 Mustang Mach-E’s to test out. Hastings-on-Hudson’s Police Department purchased a Tesla Model Y vehicle last year to add to the fleet. In Connecticut, the Westport Police purchased a Tesla Model 3 to be fully customized for the department’s use to lower fuel costs. The LAPD also has some Model 3 EVs on the road.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is newer to the market, but it will probably pop up in other police departments soon. The electric SUV has a relatively reasonable range and meets the needs of the various police departments. More Mach-Es will be brought on if it proves to be a good choice.
