The Mach-E hit dealerships toward the end of 2020 as an unprecedented health crisis ravaged the nation. Despite the high expectations that came with the EV’s nameplate and the adversity it faced, it seemed the Mach-E was a huge success.
Many Ford fans were skeptical of the electric SUV, but sales suggested that America was embracing Ford’s vision for the electric future. Even some of the oldest Ford fans were onboard…until now. According to InsideEVs, Mach-E sales are down a whopping 46.5% year over year. How could this happen when the Mach-E has been receiving so much praise recently?
The Blue Oval’s production woes know no bounds
The answer to the decline in Mach-E sales isn’t necessarily a lack of demand or interest. Many experts and critics agree that the Ford Mustang Mach-E is an amazing electric SUV model. Car and Driver gave the 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E a 9.5/10 overall rating. It received an Editor’s Choice award as well.
A lack of necessary materials, including semiconductor chips, has wreaked havoc on Blue Oval production lines. The simple equation behind the lower percentage of sales could be that fewer vehicles available for sale equals fewer sales. Word of production issues is also widespread across the automotive industry. As a consumer, would you order a vehicle from an automaker that you know is struggling with production?
The Ford Bronco encountered catastrophic production issues. Some buyers are still waiting for orders placed many months ago. Production woes are bad news for Ford buyers and for Ford sales. Ford’s electric SUV is still one of the best options on the market despite its decline in sales. Is it the best time to order a new Mustang Mach-E? Probably not. Still, Ford’s electrified Mustang is here to stay, don’t count it out just yet.
