The Ford Ranger Is Still Beating the GMC Canyon
In 2022, sales of the Ford Ranger dropped. Although this midsize truck has a lot to like about it, the Ranger is starting to feel dated. Plus, the next-gen Ford Ranger is rumored to be on the way. Despite a dip in sales, the Ranger does manage to beat one pickup. And that is the GMC Canyon. So, what’s the deal with the two worst-selling midsize trucks of 2022?
Is the Ford Ranger a good truck?
The Ford Ranger truck is pretty decent in terms of being a midsize pickup. It can tow up to 7,500 pounds and offers 270 horsepower. As every truck should, the Ranger also features things like the FX4 package, which should help with off-road use should you choose to do that.
Where the current Ford Ranger might fall short is the fact that it is old. When the Blue Oval first reintroduced its smaller truck in the United States, we actually got the previous gen compared to the global market. Because of that, this midsize truck can feel slightly dated when compared to its rivals.
That might have something to do with its sales numbers, at least for 2022. The 2024 Ranger is expected to be all-new. And the States should even be getting the Ford Ranger Raptor. Some folks may be simply waiting until the next generation Ranger arrives.
The Ranger beats the GMC Canyon in sales
When it comes to sales, the Ford Ranger did beat the GMC Canyon for 2022. Ford moved 57,005 units, and according to Ford Authority, GMC sold 27,819 Canyon trucks. The only other midsize pickup with similar numbers is the Honda Ridgeline. Putting the Ranger and the Canyon at the bottom of the barrel.
Now, in 2023, it’s possible that the GMC Canyon will see a boost in popularity. GM’s midsize truck is all-new for this year, including the Chevy Colorado. With that comes a number of new features, better design, and improved comfort. So, until the new Ranger arrives, maybe consumers will look to the Canyon. Although, it’s worth noting that the Colorado is closer in terms of price.
When can a 2024 Ford Ranger be ordered?
The 2024 Ranger is not available yet, but orders should open up at some point in 2024. If the Ford Maverick is any indication, actually getting the next-gen Ranger could be a difficult task. And that is especially true if you are looking for something like the Ford Ranger Raptor.
Although some supply chain issues are being solved, some auto manufacturers are struggling to keep up with demand. Trucks are some of the hottest vehicles on today’s market, so it makes sense that a lot of folks are probably waiting to put an order in on a 2024 Ranger.
Once those orders open up, I would not be surprised if they were closed shortly after. Even some 2023 Ford Ranger orders have been experiencing difficulties depending on the configuration. That can make it pretty difficult for consumers to get the pickup truck they actually want.
