Ford has issued a recall alert for certain 2021-2022 F-150 trucks. The recall is to fix a problem with heat and noise insulators that can somehow come in contact with the aluminum driveshaft of the truck. The recall was issued on August 12, and the NHTSA warns that the problem can also affect the parking brake. The Ford F-150 has seen several recalls since its 2021 redesign.

The first F-150 driveshaft recall happened in May of 2021for a different issue on Ford’s two-piece driveshafts. Then in December Ford issued another similar recall for trucks with the optional noise reduction panels. Also, in August of 2021, the F-150 Super Cab saw a seatbelt recall. The recalls are not on the Lightning version of the F-150, as it’s electric and doesn’t use the same kind of driveshaft as the gas-powered trucks. But, driveshafts aren’t the only problem with the F-150, as it’s been part of several recalls.

Is the Ford F-150 reliable?

Overall, Ford F-150 trucks are the best-selling trucks in the world. But, at Consumer Reports, for one example, the magazine doesn’t give it a great predicted reliability score. At J.D. Ford redesigned the F-150 for 2021

The 2021 Ford F-150 saw some huge upgrades to the truck. Ford uses a steel frame for the F-150, but aluminum body panes which adds lightness. A truck with a lighter body can haul more stuff and people but also get better fuel economy. The truck also uses aluminum for its driveshaft, instead of steel.

Overall the 2021 and 2022 Ford F-150 trucks come in several versions with six different engine options. You can get the 3.3-liter V6 that makes 290 horsepower, a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 that makes 325 horsepower, and a 5.0-liter V8 that makes 400 horsepower, 3.0-liter turbo V6 with 250 horsepower. You can order two different versions of the 3.5-liter PowerBoost V6, one of which has full hybrid power and is the most powerful Ford F-150 engine available with 430 horsepower.

Beyond that, Ford F-150s can be optioned as basic work trucks, with up to an 8.0-foot bed. Or you can order your F-150 as a boulevard cruiser in the Limited and Platinum trims. The Tremor trim package, and the similar FX4 additions, add some serious four-wheeling ability to the F-150. Though the truck is supremely capable, the SuperDuty F-250 and F-350 trucks can be outfitted to tow and haul more than 20,000 pounds.
