Ford Reintroduces Retro Trim for the 2024 Ford Bronco Sport
The Ford Bronco Sport hasn’t needed much help in getting people interested. The little Bronco has been a sales powerhouse since books opened in 2021. Since then, the Bronco Sport has remained as popular as napkins at a BBQ joint. Even still, Ford saw fit to bring back a rad vintage Special Edition trim package for the 2024 Ford Bronco Sport.
What is the Ford Bronco Sport Free Wheeling package?
If you are a proper Ford nerd, you might have heard of the Free Wheeling package in the past. During the 1970s, big American cars (trucks and SUVs, in particular) were tough to sell due to a crippling oil shortage. It was during this time that smaller import carmakers like Honda and Toyota caught a foothold here. Because of how hard it was to sell trucks, SUVs, and muscle cars, carmakers started making flashy graphics packages to add some excitement to the thirsty V8s.
One of the coolest of these packages was the Free Wheeling package from Ford. Ford clad the F-100, F-150, Econoline, Courier, and the Bronco in multiple stripey decals. As you can see in the images recently released by Ford, the Free Wheeling package dresses the Ford Bronco Sport in a series of sunset-inspired stripes along the side and hood with red-accented wheels. Other Free Wheeling features include black mirrors, bumpers, and roof, along with red and orange pinstriping on the dashboard and seats.
Is there a Special Edition Bronco Sport?
Just like back in the 1970s, Ford loves special edition models. The 2024 Ford Bronco Sport Free Wheeling is a limited-run special edition trim. It is based on the Badlands model sporting all the same equipment. However, the Free Wheeling edition tacks on an additional $2,500 to the price of the badlands. Before destination charges, the Free Wheeling model starts at $33,730.
What’s new for the 2024 Ford Bronco Sport?
Aside from the aggressively -‘70s Free Wheeling package, the 2024 Ford Bronco Sport also gets another new aesthetic package. If the flashy 1970s style isn’t for you, then you might be interested in the moody all-black trim. Ford not-so-creatively calls this the Black Appearance Package. It comes with a carbon-black grille, matte black 17-inch wheels, and a dark roof. Ford Even smoked out its own badge to keep the murdered-out look intact. Not to be completely outshined, the Black package also gets graphics on the hood, but they are all black.
The Black Appearance is only for the Big Bend trim and costs an extra $1,750. This trim package can’t be combined with the Black Diamond Off-Road Package or the Shadow Black paint.
If the special editions aren’t your style, the 2024 Bronco Sport still offers some new new for you. The 2024 model year offers some rad new colors like Azure Gray and Desert Sand. Unfortunately, you can’t have them on the Free Wheeling or Heritage variants. Orders are already open for the revised Bronco Sport lineup.
