Ford Says a Large Majority of Ranger Owners Make the Same Shopping Choice
You’ve probably noticed that pickup trucks are really popular in the United States. Truck sales have continued to grow while car sales have declined. Trucks outsold cars for the first time in April, according to Motor Intelligence as reported by Car and Driver. Pickup trucks offer buyers lots of ways to get exactly the truck they’re looking for. Ford has found that buyers especially like to customize the appearance of their Ford Ranger. In response, the company has introduced an enhancement to one of its appearance packages to give the base trim additional options.
The popular shopping choice with the Ford Ranger
According to Ford, more than 75 percent of Ranger customers chose an appearance package during 2020. The manufacturer took note, and for 2021 will now offer a new package for entry-level Ford Ranger buyers.
“Ranger customers are asking for new options to help make their trucks their own and we hear them,” said Ranger marketing manager Chad Callander. “STX Special Edition hits a really compelling and affordable sweet spot for a lot of Ranger buyers looking for just the right combination of tech and style.”
The new STX Special Edition Package
The new STX Special Edition Package will now be available for the 2021 Ford Ranger, bringing added style and technology. According to Ford, this package will provide 18-inch black-painted wheels with machined-finished edges on the outside. Inside the truck, buyers will gain an 8-inch center touchscreen, an upgrade from the standard 2.3-inch productivity screen on the XL trim.
It will also add a SYNC 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, AppLink, dual-zone climate control, silver-painted interior accents, and privacy glass with rear defrost. The package will have a price of $995.
The STX Special Edition Package is an enhancement to the popular STX Appearance Package, which doesn’t include tech upgrades. That package does provide 17-inch silver wheels, fog lamps, tow hooks for the exterior, and premium black cloth seats inside, according to MotorTrend.
Buyers can select the STX Special Edition Package with the 2021 Ranger XL 4×2 or 4×4 in SuperCab or SuperCrew configuration. It can also be bundled with other packages, including the FX2 or FX4 Off-Road Package.
Configurations of the 2021 Ford Ranger
There are a number of different ways that buyers can customize their Ford Rangers. There are three trim levels to pick from – XL, XLT, and Lariat. The cab comes in either SuperCrew or SuperCab. The SuperCrew seats five people, has four full-size doors, and has a five-foot box. The SuperCab seats four, has two half-doors, and has a six-foot box.
The one engine available is a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, according to Car and Driver. It’s paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and it’s available with either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
Currently available appearance packages include the STX Appearance Package, Black Package, Chrome Appearance Package, and Sport Appearance Package. The Ranger Tremor Off-Road Package has also been announced for 2021, offering even more off-road features than the FX2 and FX4 Off-Road Packages. In addition, new Ford Performance Parts Packages give buyers three levels of off-road upgrades and accessories to purchase from the dealership. In addition to appearance alterations, Ford offers packages for buyers to upgrade the safety features, trailer towing, the bed, and other features.
Since Ford has noticed that most of its customers want to add an appearance package to their Ranger truck, the company has expanded its available packages. In 2021, buyers of the base truck will be able to add even more style and technology at a still affordable price.
