Ford Shocks the World With Electric Lincoln Lineup Announcement
What comes to mind when you think of Ford’s luxury division Lincoln? Is it Matthew McConaughey’s smooth southern drawl or plush interiors? Lincoln, like Ford, is getting with the times and switching up its approach to vehicle production. Electric motors will soon be at the heart of Lincoln vehicles.
Will Lincoln make an electric car?
Historic American automaker Ford is diving deep into the world of electric vehicles. The automaker is already selling its first electric SUV, the Ford Mustang Mach-E. Its first electric pickup truck, the Ford F-150 Lightning, is on its way. Ford has big plans for the electrification of its vehicle lineup. It’s only natural that the company looks to electrify its luxury division as well. After all, the future is electric, and Ford is determined to occupy a large portion of America’s new EV market share.
According to Reuters, Lincoln plans on launching several new electric SUVs by the year 2026. There’s no word about an electric car, but SUVs are currently the best-selling automobiles in America. SUVs provide more utility than most cars because of cabin and cargo space. The first electric Lincoln will likely use the same powertrain as the Mustang Mach-E.
Is the Lincoln Aviator fully electric?
There are no fully electric Lincoln models on the market yet. The Lincoln Aviator has a plug-in hybrid trim that utilizes hybrid technology. Plug-in hybrid models are vehicles that use internal combustion engines in collaboration with electric motors. These vehicles also have small power reserves that can be recharged. Plug-in hybrid powertrains allow vehicles to travel for short distances using only electric power.
The Aviator may not be electric, but Lincoln’s first EV will be almost the same size as the large Lincoln SUV. Lincoln is beginning production on the electric SUV in late 2024 or early 2025.
What should you expect from an electric Lincoln?
Ford is going all-in on electric vehicles, and the results have been amazing. Drivers are responding well to the Mustang Mach-E despite how shockingly different the SUV is from Mustang models. The Blue Oval is doubling its production of the F-150 Lightning to meet the high demand for the electric full-size pickup truck.
Expect an electric Lincoln to have all the performance specs of a top trim level Mach-E as well as plenty of creature comforts. Now that Ford has proven it can produce a great electric SUV, it’s time to prove that it can produce a great electric luxury SUV.
The first electric Lincoln will likely be reserved for consumers that are willing to spend upwards of $50,000 on a new electric SUV model. Lincoln models are known for refined cabins and upscale exteriors, so expect upcoming Lincoln EVs to impress those with a taste for the finer things in life.
