Ford Super Duty Trucks Are Leaking Fuel and Causing Fires
Potential crisis alert! If you have a Ford Super Duty truck equipped with the 6.7-liter V8 diesel engine. Ford Super Duty trucks are being probed due to a fuel leak that may increase the risk of fire and is related to injuries.
Ford Super Duty trucks have fuel leaks and fire risks
The following Ford Super Duty trucks manufactured between 2015 – 2021 with the 6.7-liter V8 diesel engine are literally under fire:
- F-250
- F-350
- F-450
- F-550
210,960 trucks are included.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) is launching a probe to look into this issue after its Office of Defects Investigation received about 27 related complaints. Roughly 12 of the complaints included reports of fire and four included injuries.
Reportedly, a fracture in the secondary air filters in the trucks are located next to high-heat sources, creating the potential for auto-ignition thermal events and fires.
Allevard Sogefi USA manufactures the filters and shared that the secondary filter is tested with reduced pressure levels during the manufacturing process instead of at the maximum operating pressure of the fuel system.
Ford is working with the NHSTA to support its investigation. The first step is to determine if the malfunctioning filter poses an unreasonable safety risk.
To me, fire seems pretty dangerous, but we will have to wait for the study to conclude before we get any answers.
The case could be closed without taking any actions or it could lead to a massive recall. If your truck is included with the recall, Ford will notify you via mail.
With the turbocharged 6.7-liter V8 diesel engine you get 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The high-output variant debuted in 2023, with 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft of torque.
This engine is still available, but the filters must have been updated for 2022 as later ears aren’t included in this investigation. Stay tuned for updates.
