What is the difference between a Tremor and a Raptor?

While the 2021 Ford Raptor and 2021 Ford Tremor are both Ford’s best off-roading trucks, the Ford Raptor is better outfitted for the trails. The Raptor is slightly taller than the Tremor. The Raptor has better ground clearance than the Tremor – in fact, it’s 3.5-inches higher off the ground than the Ford Tremor. The Ford Raptor is also wider than the Ford Tremor, at 5.8-inches in the front, and 4.8-inches wider in the rear.

The Raptor and Tremor have the same drivetrain. They both have a 3.5-liter V6, though the 2021 Ford Raptor gets more horsepower, at 450-hp to the 2021 Ford Tremor’s 400-hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. The Drive says that the “Raptor is built for some proper action out in the dunes, while the Tremor is more of a low-speed off-roader.” 

Another major difference between the Raptor and Tremor is their towing capabilities. The Tremor can tow more than the Raptor, at 10,900 pounds to the Raptor’s 8,200 pounds.

What is the Ford Tremor package?

The Ford Tremor package is an off-road-worthy Ford F-150 that sits in between a typical F-150 and the Raptor. Until the Ford Raptor R debuts in late 2022, these are the two best off-road options that Ford has. The 2021 Ford Tremor has an upgraded suspension, higher ride height, and new shocks. The Ford Tremor also has locking differentials, technology for the trails, and 33-inch tires.

It debuted near the end of 2020. It sits 2.1-inches higher than the regular Ford F-150, at 79.3-inches to the F-150’s 77.2. That also makes it just a half-inch shorter than the Ford Raptor, and 1.4-inches shorter than the Raptor 37. In addition to its massive towing capacity, it also has a payload capacity of 1885 pounds.

Other benefits of the Ford Tremor package include a 2.0-kW generator, 120V 20A bed outlets, and a 12-inch touchscreen available in the two top trim packages. The Ford Tremor also has black and orange accents on both the exterior and the interior. The 2021 Ford F-150 Tremor also has the Ford Trail Toolbox, which includes trail control, trail turn assist, and rock crawl mode.

How much does the Ford Raptor cost?

The 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor starts at $64,145, but that’s far from where you can end up. Depending on what you add on to your Raptor truck, you could end up with a pretty expensive F-150 Raptor. Opting for the SuperCrew cab nudges the price up to $65,840 right off the bat. For this price, you’ll get 37-inch tires and Fox shocks.

The 2021 Ford F-150 Tremor is a better deal. It starts at $51,200. This price includes the destination fee. If you really want the 2021 Ford Raptor but you just can’t afford it, you might be happy with the 2021 Ford Tremor. You also may prefer the Tremor if you don’t have any serious off-roading needs that would require spending an extra $13,000 on your F-150. No matter if you choose the Raptor or the Tremor though, you’re probably going to end up loving your truck.
