Ford’s 2023 6.7-Liter Power Stroke Diesel Blasts Past Ram and Chevy
With the release of the 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel in Ford’s F-Series engine arsenal, it has blasted past both Chevrolet and Ram in terms of torque. Yeah, 1,200 lb-ft of torque is amazing. That’s the bottom line with the 2023 High Output version of the six-seven Power Stroke in Super Duty Fords. That adds up to a 40,000 lb towing capacity with 8,000 lbs of payload.
What other Super Duty Power Stroke engines are there?
All of this power places the six seven HO as best-in-class. But even the non-HO 6.7 has impressive numbers. It cranks out 475 hp and 1,050 lb-ft of torque.
Now, those HO numbers come with the F-450 Dual Rear Wheel Regular Cab model equipped with a gooseneck. Opting for the F-450 Crew Cab, those numbers go down to a 30,000 tow capacity. Those are still plenty impressive numbers.
There is a larger displacement engine available for Ford’s Super Duty trucks. It’s the 7.3-liter gas-powered V8 with overhead cams. This engine has 445 lb-ft of torque, a gain of 15 lb-ft from last year. For gas burners, it sits at the top for payload with up to 8,000 lbs. It also features 430 hp and 485 lb-ft of torque. These numbers apply to the F-350 Dual Rear Wheel Regular Cab 4×2 with the Heavy Payload option.
How do Ford’s gas engines compare to the diesel Power Stroke?
Moving down a bit, the F-350 with gooseneck leads the class with a 38,000 lb towing capacity, and 28,000 lbs with conventional towing. And Ford’s F-250 Super Duty with the gooseneck option can pull 23,000 lbs. Its diesel offerings have all of the Super Duty series covered.
We’ve already mentioned the 7.3 gas Power Stroke engine. But a big change is the elimination of the 6.2-iter base V8. Now, a new 6.8-liter V8 increases power to 405 hp from the previous 385 hp.
What other features does the truck feature?
Moving from engine availability, one of the great new features of F-Series trucks is the Onboard Scale option. As you fill the bed, the option keeps track of bed weight. And with the Smart Hitch measures weight bias to balance out loads for ease of towing. For Super Duty trucks, the Pro Trailer Hitch makes doing hookups much easier with its steering assist capabilities.
Another towing assist is the Trailer Camera Package. This aids in helping navigate tight spaces and obstacles. And with Trailer Navigation, you can input your destination with the feature choosing the best routes to avoid low bridges, tight turns, and other problem sections of roads.
The new 2023 Ford Super Duty trucks start at $45,765 for an F-250 XL. They should be in showrooms in the first part of 2023.
