What to expect from the F-150 Lightning

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning won’t hit showroom floors until next year, but already demand is high for the new EV. Inverse claims the F-150 Lightning is “poised to reshape the entire electric vehicle industry.” Representatives from Ford were quick to emphasize the new pickup will be “F-150 first and electric second,” living up to the quality standards of the respected automaker.

During a test drive at the Ford facilities, Inverse found the new EV to look “an awful lot like a Ford F-150 pickup truck.” It was apparent right from the start that Ford wanted to “build a truck that was electric but also did everything F-150 buyers expect and more.”

After the release of the electric version of the Mustang, Ford didn’t want to disappoint consumers again. The Mustang Mach-E, albeit a great car, was a poor representation of the traditional Mustang. Many people wondered how the Mach-E earned the Mustang badge. Thankfully, that does not appear to be the case with the new Ford F-150 Lightning EV.

No need to worry if the power goes out in your house

In addition to speed, the new all-electric F-150 offers a unique feature. Ford is introducing a state-of-the-art residential charging station like never seen before. Not only does it have the capability to charge the F-150 Lightning with ease, but it can also provide power to a home for several days. 

Due to unprecedented demand ahead of next year’s launch, the automaker recently announced it doubled its production target for the F-150 Lightning pickup truck. More than 80,000 units are expected to be built by 2024, with the first models coming off the assembly line early next Spring.

How fast is the Ford F-150 Lightning? 

The electric Ford F-150 Lightning will go head-to-head with several other new all-electric trucks hitting the market next year. Car and Driver claim the dual-motor Tesla Cybertruck will hit 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, maxing out at a staggering 120 mph. Top Speed says the Rivian R1T, which can go from 0 to 60 mph in “three seconds flat with the 135-kWh pack,” is in a “three-way battle with Tesla’s pickup truck and the all-electric Ford F-150 and has created enough hype to keep enthusiasts on their toes.”

The new Lightning pickup has 573 hp and 775 lb-ft of torque, with incredible acceleration power. Ford reports the EV truck can hit 0 to 60 mph in less than 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 110 mph.

The President of the United States was impressed with the truck’s lightning-fast speed. When Biden got the chance to take the all-electric F-150 pickup for a spin, he commented, “This sucker’s quick!”

Driving notes the Lightning nameplate is not new, saying the 2013 F-150 Lightning “boasted a brawny 5.4-liter supercharged V8 under the hood and was named the World’s Fastest Pickup by Guinness World Records.” It’s no wonder the blue oval decided to give the name another try.
