Forget Apple, Kia Has Its Own Electric Vehicle Plans
Apple may have brought some new attention to Kia with their intentions of investing. However, the Kia CV and other electric vehicles have been in the works. In fact, Kia plans to add 11 electric vehicles to its lineup by 2026.

In case you missed it, Apple was hoping to invest $3,6 billion in Kia Motors to collaborate on building an electric car. According to Mashable, the plan is to launch the Apple Car by 2024 with 100,000 units per year that can be expanded to 400,000 units.
The Apple funds would be used to build exclusive facilities to produce and develop the Apple Car. They have high hopes for an electric vehicle with over 300 miles of range on a full charge, and that can accelerate from0 to 60 mph in less than 3.5 seconds.
Hyundai, which partially owns Kia, noted that the discussions were in their early stage and that no decisions have been made, which means that they haven’t come to any sort of agreement yet. Kia and Apple also declined to comment on the matter. But now, spy shots of the Kia CV have been obtained.
What is the Kia CV?
According to Motor Authority, Kia is working on its first electric vehicle with a new platform that’s specifically designed for battery electric power. The existing Kia Soul and Niro EVs are based on platforms designed for internal-combustion power.
The CV is currently in prototype form and will be a compact crossover SUV. However, not much information has been revealed yet. If things go accordingly, we could learn about the first details in March.
In 2019 the Imagine by Kia Concept emerged as a preview for the new CV. It’s described as a daily drive that incorporates features from an SUV, sedan, and sporty coupe. However, the spy shots show a tiny SUV with a slightly boxier design.
The Kia CV is being developed with sister models from Hyundai and Genesis on the E-GMP modular EV platform. Out of the 11 electric vehicles, Kia adds to its lineup by 2026, 7 will ride on this platform. The Ioniq 5 is the twin to the Kia CV. All vehicles on the E-GMP platform are expected to have over 200 miles of range with the ability to charge up to 80-percent in under 20 minutes.
What is the Hyundai Ioniq 5?
The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a hatchback-like mid-size crossover. According to Car and Driver, the new electric vehicle will be fully revealed on February 23, so we don’t have to wait much longer.
The Iconiq 5 will have a combined output of 313 hp and will come with standard all-wheel drive. It could also have a driving range of over 300 miles on a single charge, and its 800-volt architecture provides quick charging speeds.
There will be a 58-kWh battery pack and a larger 73.0-kWh battery pack. With the fast-charging capability, the batteries should recharge up to 8-percent in as little as 18 minutes. Also, five minutes could provide a 60-percent charge.
