Forget the Canoo Van, the Volkswagen ID.Buzz Is Coming
There ain’t no party like a microbus party and the Canoo Van and Volkswagen ID.Buzz are about to make vans popular again. However, because VW has more brand recognition, the 2024 Volkswagen ID.Buzz could dominate the Canoo microbus before it has a chance.
How much does the 2024 Volkswagen ID.Buzz cost?
We will learn more once the 2024 Volkswagen ID.Buzz once it makes its official debut on March 9, 2022. SO far, it’s expected to start around $40,000. This price may seem high or low based on the amount of range the VW ID.Buzz will have.
Also, another groovy van or microbus is on the horizon. The 2022 Canoo van has a base price of $34,750 and will be delivered in 2023. So it has two potential advantages. It could be cheaper than the ID.Buzz, and it will come out first.
Before we get into the specs, we would like to clarify that we aren’t hating on minivans by getting super excited for these electric microbus vans. It’s just that nothing turns heads like a classic VW Bus, and now it’s finally returning.
What to expect with the Volkswagen ID.Buzz
When the 2024 Volkswagen ID.Buzz arrives, it will have three rows of seating. The base model of the Canoo electric van will provide seating for up to five, so the ID.Buzz may be able to seat more people.
The Canoo Lifestyle Vehicle comes with lounge-like seating that can accommodate up to seven passengers. However, this model will come with a higher price tag. Also, a panoramic glass roof adds to the luxury feel.
Like the Canoo van, the VW ID.Buzz will allow its seats to be configured in multiple different ways. We also expect both vans to be well equipped to go off-roading to campsites at least.
The VW bus is following in the tracks of the iconic Type 2 Microbus that was introduced in the 1950s. If you remember anything about these vans, then you may think about peace, love, and sleeping in it.
We know that the Canoo microbus has a 112.2-inch wheelbase, and it uses a fully electric skateboard chassis. It should provide a pretty smooth ride.
But we’re still waiting to see how big the VW ID.Buzz is. It will be built on the Volkswagen Modular Electric Drive platform that also underpins the VW ID.4 electric crossover.
How much range does the VW ID.Buzz have?
The 2024 Volkswagen ID.Buzz is expected to offer a 300-mile driving range. It will be available with single- and dual-motor configurations providing both rear and all-wheel drive. This could mean that AWD isn’t standard.
With the Canoo van, you can get up to 250 miles of range with rear-wheel drive. So, AWD may not be standard with the Canoo either. The single motor variant provides 300 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque, and the dual-motor setup offers up to 600 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque.
We’re still waiting to see how much these microbus options can tow, but we should learn more soon. Even though the Canoo EV will arrive first, we’re worried that it won’t have the popularity or production status that the Volkswagen ID.Buzz could deliver.
