For years, Chevy’s LS engines have been the go-to swap for enthusiasts that want a strong and reliable power source for their project cars. However, new crate engines from both Ford and Dodge have become increasingly tempting options. Today we’re covering Dodge’s newest offering, the 807-hp V8 out of the limited-edition Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. According to Mopar, the crate engine Dodge is calling the Hellcrate Redeye is officially available for purchase.

The 6.2-liter supercharged Hellcrate engine makes 807 hp

If you missed out on the limited run of Dodge Challenger SRT Demon’s, you could at least purchase its engine. According to Mopar, the Hellcrate Redeye is the same 6.2-liter supercharged V8 out of the SRT Demon. The crate engine develops 807 hp at 717 lb-ft of torque on 91 octane pump gas. Oddly enough, the new crate engine develops 1 hp less than it did in the SRT Demon. Mopar did not mention whether different fuel options could increase the engine’s output like it did in the SRT Demon.

While the supercharged V8 is based on the one you’ll find in the standard Hellcat models, it has a few key differences. For starters, the Hellcrate Redeye benefits from a larger 2.7-liter supercharger, up from 2.4-liters. Boost pressure also increases from 11.6 psi to 14.5 psi. Although it is by no means a high-revving engine, the Hellcrate Redeye has an elevated redline of 6,500, up from 6,200.

Unlike the Challenger SRT Demon, the Hellcrate Redeye can actually be paired to a manual transmission. However, it is important to note that you’ll have to purchase additional parts from Mopar to make it happen.

It’s going cost you $21,807

A high-horsepower supercharged V8 is great, but it is by no means cheap. Mopar’s new Hellcrate Redeye costs $21,807. To put that into perspective, that is about as much as you’d pay for a small hot hatch. It is important to note that accessories such as an alternator, power-steering pump, belts, pulleys, and mounting hardware are extra.

If the Hellcrate Redeye is out of the budget, Mopar offers a couple of extra options. A standard Hellcrate is also available for a more reasonable $20,215. This version of the supercharged V8 includes the smaller 2.4-liter supercharger and, as a result, develops 707 hp.

The 6.4-liter naturally aspirated V8 out of the SRT 392 models is also available for $10,060. It produces 485 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. The cheapest option available is the 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V8 out of the R/T models for $6,550. Aside from being the cheapest, it is also the weakest option with 375 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque.

You can also buy a 1,000 hp Hellephant engine

If the Hellcrate Redeye doesn’t do it for you and your pockets are deep enough, Mopar has a more powerful option. It’s called the Hellephant and, like the others, is a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 except it develops 1,000 hp. The Hellephant carries a significant premium over the other engines, coming in a hair under $30,000. Oddly enough, the Hellephant currently doesn’t come equipped in any production Hellcat model.
