Recently, Toyota revealed the bZ SUV compact. This move is part of a greater effort by the Japanese car brand to enter the electric car market. Needless to say, Toyota’s release of a dedicated EV has been long awaited by many. But one thing is still missing from Toyota’s lineup, and that is a Prius SUV hybrid. 

Is there a Toyota Prius SUV?

There is not a Prius SUV, despite the fact that the Prius hybrid has been around for years, and SUVs are extremely popular. If you want a Prius SUV, you will need to look to the Lexus brand. Lexus currently offers an SUV known as the UX, and it is based on the Toyota Prius. It is also only available as a hybrid. 

Not everyone is ready to make the jump to a full EV quite yet. And a Toyota Prius SUV would certainly, be a good compromise for that type of consumer. But, as this brand shifts its focus to electric vehicles, a Prius SUV probably is not in the cards. 

Does Toyota have a hybrid SUV?

Toyota does make two SUVs that are traditional hybrids. These include the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and the 2022 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Because of that, if you need a full-size SUV or something smaller, you can find something with more efficiency with the Toyota brand.

Notably lacking from these options is a Toyota Prius hybrid SUV though. With a Lexus variant of the Prius, it seems like Toyota could produce this SUV if it wanted to. But maybe, there’s just not a financially viable reason to do so. 

The 2023 Toyota Prius is here

The 2023 Prius is here, and according to Car and Driver, it marks the fifth generation of this vehicle. This new Toyota hybrid boasts new looks and modern features. And at the risk of catching some flak, it does seem more attractive than previous Prius models. 

The 2023 Toyota Prius rides on Toyota’s TNGA-C platform. This platform is rigid, offers a lower driving position, and still retains an efficient attitude. Models with all-wheel drive will get 196 horsepower, and the Prius Prime has made its return. It makes 220 hp. 

Depending on trim level, you can get a 12.3-inch touchscreen, which does come standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Despite all of these changes, a Prius SUV isn’t in the cards. And that does seem like a miss for the Toyota brand. 

How much is the new Toyota Prius?

Toyota has yet to confirm the MSRP of the 2023 Toyota Prius. It will likely start under $30,000 for the base model, while higher trims will likely cost more. The most expensive Prius will likely cost slightly over $36,000. But we will not know for sure until Toyota makes a statement regarding the cost. 

Standard features will include things like blind-spot monitoring and 17-inch wheels. For the estimated starting price, the base features do appear to be a fairly good deal for those who want a new hybrid.
