Many Americans are thinking about how much gas mileage their car gets right now, and for full-size truck shoppers, there’s one great option on the market. That’s because the full-size truck with the best mpg also has the lowest price tag of all fuel-efficient full-size trucks. Here’s a look at fuel-efficient full-size trucks and how the most fuel-efficient option is also the cheapest one. 

These full-size trucks have the best fuel economy right now

According to KRQE, there are several fuel-efficient full-size pickup options, and they all have a roughly similar fuel economy. In sixth place is the Ford F-150, which gets 25 mpg combined when it’s in its most economical configuration. However, a brand-new version will cost about $54,000. The Chevy Silverado 1500 Limited is in fifth place, which gets about 26 mpg combined. The Chevy will cost about $52,000 brand-new. 

In fourth place is the GMC Sierra 1500 Limited. Since the Sierra and the Silverado are very similar, the Sierra 1500 Limited also gets about 26 mpg combined. However, it’s an expensive truck starting at about $60,000 brand-new.

The Ram 1500 is in third place, getting 26 mpg combined. The Ram 1500 will cost about $55,000 brand-new. In second place is the GMC Sierra 1500. It gets about 27 mpg combined and costs about $56,000 brand-new. 

The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 has the best fuel economy and is relatively affordable

The full-size pickup truck with the best mpg is the Chevy Silverado 1500, and unsurprisingly, it also gets 27 mpg combined. However, one of Chevy and GMC’s main differences is their pricing. As a result, even though the Silverado has the same mpg as the Sierra, it’s a much more affordable pickup truck. 

This version of the Silverado costs about $50,000 brand-new. This makes it about $5,000 less expensive than the Sierra. That said, truck shoppers will need to pay extra to access the economical version of the Silverado. That’s because the standard Silverado starts with a four-cylinder engine and only gets about 21 mpg combined. 

Truck shoppers will need to choose the Silverado’s 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel engine option to get the 27 mpg rating. It’s a similar story for anyone interested in the Sierra, but there’s another good reason drivers should upgrade to the diesel. That’s because the Silverado and Sierra’s diesel engine allows the trucks to get the most towing capacity out of all engine options.

An overview of the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500

General Motors, which owns GMC and Chevy, gave the diesel engine an upgrade for the 2023 model year. It now gets 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque, representing a significant upgrade from what the 2022 version was capable of. This will allow the Silverado to tow up to 13,000 pounds when it’s properly equipped. 

The Silverado is still a capable truck even if folks don’t want the diesel option. The work truck trim starts at about $35,000 and comes with a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This gas-powered engine gets 305 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to tow up to 9,500 pounds. Chevy offers three bed options for the Silverado. There’s the short bed, which is 5 feet and 10 inches long. The standard bed is 6 feet and 7 inches long. And the long bed is 8 feet and 2 inches long.
