I’m all for full-size trucks with an MSRP discount as prices rage out of control. But one option with the biggest price decrease feels almost like a trap. Before savings draw you in check out a few reliability concerns. 

The full-size truck with the best MSRP discount is the Ford F-150 Hybrid 

According to Road and Track, the full-size truck with the largest MSRP discount is the 2024 Ford F-150 Hybrid. 

It has an average MSRP of $84,910, but an average price of $82,132. That means that it’s selling at about 3.3% below its MSRP. 

Perhaps things have been getting better for the F-150 PowerBoost truck. But recently, it was considered to be one of the least reliable trucks available. 

Ford Authority shared that it received a below-average rating from Consumer Reports in 2023. Scores were even lower in 2022 and 2021. 

The F-150 Hybrid has the lowest reliability score across the lineup with a 19 out of 100. The Ford Maverick topped the 2023 list with a score of 71. 

Scores are based on feedback from actual owners. Surveys are sent out to thousands of drivers allowing them to report any problems they face.

The survey includes everything from problems with the paint, engine failure, electrical issues, transmission failure, interior problems, leaks, strange noises, and more. 

Drivers of the Ford F-150 Hybrid reported transmission, electric, hybrid battery, electrical accessories, drive system, leaks, odd noises, and infotainment system problems. 

The most popular complaint includes hybrid battery failure. The battery seems to be prone to failing early before 3,000 miles is even on the odometer. 

When the battery fails, people can’t start their trucks and lose driving power. Also, it costs between $2,000 to $8,000 to replace a Ford hybrid battery if it’s not covered by the warranty. 

While finding a full-size truck with a solid MSRP discount can be exciting, take it with a grain of salt. Do your research before taking the deal.
