How Much Does a Fully Loaded 2022 BMW i4 Cost?
BMW’s 2022 i4 sedan is not the company’s first foray into EV cars. But it is the first to be based on an existing model, in this case, the 4 Series Gran Coupe.
If you are shopping for a new EV sedan, and want to see the best that the BMW i4 offers, then let’s take a look at a fully loaded version.
2022 BMW i4 M50
If we want the best in a new i4, we need to look at the top trim level. That would be the i4 M50. With a starting price of $65,900, it is not cheap, but you do get a lot of power for that money.
The i4 M50’s horsepower comes from a pair of electric motors tweaked for high power output. In total, they produce 536 horsepower and 586 pound-feet of torque. That’s significantly more than what you get in the M3 and M4 Competition models and at a lower price. BMW lists the 0 to 60 mph time as 3.7 seconds, closely matching what the M3 and M4 cars can do.
BMW claims that the i4 M50 will have a range of 227 to 270 miles before needing to be recharged. The range will drop precipitously if you drive it hard or do several launches to test its acceleration.
Standard features of the 2022 BMW i4 M50
Starting with the exterior and chassis, notable standard features include 19-inch M-Design black wheels, Shadowline black grille and trim, power moonroof, blue M Sport brake calipers, and BMW’s adaptive M suspension.
You’ll find SensaTec upholstery inside the cabin with an Anthracite headliner and aluminum trim. The instrument cluster is a 12.3-inch curved display that pairs with a 14.9-inch central information display. HiFi sound system with a 205-watt amplifier is the standard set-up with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Standard safety features include LED headlights, active collision prevention, rear-view camera, and park distance control.
Added options to fully load a 2022 BMW i4 M50
Diving into BMW’s car configurator has us starting with the exterior. Choosing the M Sport with Shadowline option ($400) adds additional black trim and 19” M Design wheels. Alpine White is the standard color, with metallic colors adding $550 to $1,500 to the base price. The matte finish Frozen Portimao Blue is a $3,600 option. The 20-inch gunmetal gray M wheels add $2,500 to the cost and include high-performance tires. BMW also offers an M Carbon Exterior package for $2,800.
Inside the cabin, there are several upholstery options, and selecting any of the Vernasca Leather colors adds the Premium package to the car for $2,400. Carbon fiber interior trim adds $300 to the build.
BMW has many additional packages to suit every taste, style, and need. The Driving Assistance Professional Package ($1,700) adds a suite of active safety features, and the Parking Assistance ($700) adds a 3D surround view and autonomous parking functions. Additional options include: drive recorder ($100), Heads-up display ($1,000), ventilated front seats ($350), adaptive LED headlights with laserlight ($1,000), wireless device charging ($200), 5G WiFi hotspot ($300), Harman Kardon surround sound system ($875), and commemorative BMW M 50 Years Emblems ($200).
Lastly, selecting the BMW Ultimate Care+ 4 Bundle gives you vehicle maintenance for seven years and adds $6,449 to the final price.
Included are charging cables that allow connection to household plugs and dedicated 240V outlets. A dedicated wall box charger will be available in the future.
In total, a fully loaded 2022 BMW i4 M50 costs $91,069 with the $995 destination fee.
Is a fully loaded 2022 BMW i4 worth it?
If you are looking for the ultimate BMW EV sedan, then yes, a fully loaded i4 is worth it. $91,000 is still a lot of money, but you get M3 performance and 4 Series comfort and practicality for $20,000 less than a comparatively equipped M3.
All of the options are not necessary to get the best out of the i4. It will depend on your personal taste and the features that are important to you. In that case, the i4 makes even more sense. The fully loaded version will be spectacular, but a more modest selection of the options will give you all of the performance and luxury at a much more palatable price.
