Cadillac’s performance-orientated V Series is back and better than ever. The CT4-V Blackwing is based on the CT4 sedan and comes with a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that produces 472 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque. That’s good enough to propel the sedan from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. The Blackwing cars, including the larger CT5-V, are rear-wheel-drive only and come standard with a six-speed manual transmission.

The CT4-V competes directly with the BMW M3. That’s a tall order as the M3 is very much the benchmark by which all high-performance sedans are judged. The CT4-V Blackwing makes a strong case to choose it over the M3 and has the speed and handling to more than hold its own against its German rival.

The base price for a 2022 CT4-V Blackwing is $58,995 and more than $10,000 cheaper than the base M3.

Summit White and Raven Black are the two standard colors, as are 18-inch polished wheels with run-flat tires. Behind those wheels are Brembo high-performance brakes.

You will find heated performance Inteluxe seats, a heated steering wheel, and dual-zone climate control inside the cabin.

When it comes to technology, the Blackwing doesn’t disappoint. There is a 12-inch digital gauge display and an eight-inch touchscreen that handles navigation and infotainment. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, as well as an AKG premium sound system with 15 speakers. You also get a pair of USB ports and wireless phone charging.

On the safety front, the Cadillac does good as well. Eight airbags are standard with a suite of active and passive safety features. These include automatic emergency braking, pedestrian avoidance, cross-traffic alert, park assistance, lane departure warning, and collision avoidance.

Cadillac also includes their V-Performance Academy driving school as part of the purchase of a Blackwing car. That takes place at Spring Mountain Motor Resort and provides instruction on high-performance driving.

There is a dizzying array of options and packages to choose from. While it may seem daunting to tackle the options list, it does allow buyers to build a car that is unique to them and suits their specific needs.

Starting on the exterior, paint colors are a $625 option, with the Infrared Tintcoat being a $1,225 option. Adding 18-inch Tech Bronze finished wheels is a $1,500 option. Colored brake calipers add $595 and black rear-view mirror caps are $195. Finally, the Carbon Fiber 1 and 2 packages add $4,350 and $2,650, respectively.

Moving inside, there is an option for a 10-speed automatic transmission. It adds $3,125 to the price. The manual transmission is so good in this car that there is no need even to consider the automatic. Jet black leather seats add $3,000. The Technology package includes a heads-up display for $725. The Climate package, at $600, provides seat ventilation and massage functions. The Driver Assist package includes adaptive cruise control and emergency reverse braking for $900.

The Interior Protection package includes all-weather floor mats and a cargo mat for $285. A power sunroof is a $1,050 option, and Torch Red seat belts add a further $400.

In total, a fully loaded 2022 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing costs $83,190.

Is a fully loaded CT4-V Blackwing worth it?

The simple answer is, yes, it is worth it. At $83,000, the CT4-V is nearly $30,000 cheaper than a fully loaded BMW M3. We would suggest skipping the 10-speed automatic transmission and save $3,125. This car’s manual transmission is fantastic and allows for full-throttle clutchless upshifts and rev-matching on the downshifts. It also has a highly satisfying feel and weight which infinitely adds to the enjoyment of the Blackwing.

The CT4-V Blackwing is not without its faults, and the BMW M3, in Competition Package form, is faster and handles better. However, the CT4-V Blackwing is no slouch and can easily tackle your daily routine and the occasional track day. $83,000 may be a lot of money for a car, but Cadillac has added a huge amount of fun and performance to the CT4 platform. If you want an alternative to the BMW M3, the CT4-V Blackwing should be on your list.
