The 2022 Subaru WRX is a prime choice for anyone looking for turbocharged power with the practicality of a compact sedan. The WRX is all-new for the 2022 model year and carries a higher price tag than ever before with the base price rising to $30,100. That’s a $1,680 difference over the outgoing model. If that’s the case, then how much does a fully loaded WRX cost?

A fully loaded 2022 Subaru WRX costs as much as the outgoing WRX STI

Prices for nearly everything we use in life increase at one point or another. Such is the case for the 2022 WRX as all its trim levels received a price bump this year. As stated before, the base price starts at $30,100 and jumps to $31,605 for the WRX Premium trim. The former top-trim Limited now starts at $36,990 and the current highest and newest trim, the WRX GT, starts at $42,890. By comparison, the outgoing WRX STI is priced at $41,945 (before destination).

All of the aforementioned prices include the $995 destination charge as well as a six-speed manual transmission – except for the GT trim. Otherwise, an optional CVT – known internally as the Subaru Performance Transmission — is available on every trim level and costs between $1,850 to $2,250 depending on which trim you pick.

What does the 2022 WRX come with?

Every 2022 WRX model comes standard with a host of features made for comfort and performance. Most notably, the WRX base model comes with power door locks, windows, and mirrors as well as welcome lighting, remote keyless entry, and 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in summer tires. Bluetooth and Apple Carplay/Android Auto also come standard as does the Subaru EyeSight suite of driver-assist features.

Stepping up to the Premium trim adds 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless start, LED foglights, dual-zone climate control, and an 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display. The Limited adds even more comfort and conveniences by including steering responsive headlights, blind-spot detection, an 11-speaker Harmon Kardon premium sound system, a power moonroof, and a power driver’s seat.

The new-for-2022 GT trim level amps up the car’s performance via electronically controlled dampers and a new Drive Mode Select system that allows for up to 430 different customizations for steering feel and damper settings. It also comes with Recaro Performance Design front seats that are adorned in black ultra-suede with a “Recaro” logo embossed on the seatbacks.

Unfortunately, the top-trim GT only comes with an automatic transmission. However, we can keep our fingers crossed that a manual transmission could be in store for that trim in the future.

What’s under the hood?

Under the hood of every 2022 WRX is a new turbocharged 2.4-liter that pumps out 271 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Just like every WRX before it, the 2022 model also comes standard with the brand’s Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system across the board.

The 2022 Subaru WRX should be showing up to dealerships across the nation soon enough. However, you can currently make a reservation via the Subaru website if you’re itching to get one. Car and Driver also note that the WRXs with the automatic transmission were affected by supply-chain issues, so bear that in mind when ordering. If anything, just get the manual transmission, you’ll be glad that you did.
