Though interest in the Mini vehicles seems to have dwindled in recent years, the BMW Group sub-brand continues to produce cute, zippy cars. Some models are competitively priced, while others, like the Cooper series, fall within the above-average price range. The 2023 Mini Cooper S Convertible is the highest-priced model you can buy outside the lineup’s special editions. What does it offer, and how much could you pay for a fully loaded 2023 Mini Cooper Convertible?

The Mini Cooper S Convertible is a two-door hatchback that seats four people. It packs a 1.5 three-cylinder engine that produces 134 hp and gets around 32 mpg combined. This model comes with only front-wheel drive, but it has a six-speed manual transmission with overdrive.

According to Cars.com, standard features include 15-inch wheels, all-season tires, a steel spare wheel, lightly tinted glass, automatic high beams, fog lamps in the front and the rear, a power convertible soft-top, and chrome door handles.

The interior includes features such as a six-way adjustable driver’s seat, leatherette upholstery, an illuminated glove box, a digital instrument cluster, and a day/night rear-view mirror. In addition, this model comes with an engine immobilizer and remote keyless entry. And Apple users will be happy to know the 2023 Mini Cooper now comes standard with Apple CarPlay. However, BMW Group has yet to offer Android Auto integration in the Mini lineup.

How much is a fully loaded 2023 Mini Cooper Convertible?

The starting MSRP for the 2023 Mini Cooper S Convertible is $33,800. If you add the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 189 hp, the price goes up by $3,600.

The highest trim package you can get with this model is the Iconic Trim 2.0. It offers parking assistance, a head-up display, piano black exterior trim pieces, wireless phone charging, and other luxurious features. Expect to pay $3,425 more for it.

In addition, you can add a soft-top to your convertible, which will run you an extra $500, and you can upgrade to 18-inch British Spoke wheels with summer performance tires for $250. Regarding the interior, the Mini Cooper Convertible offers a premium upholstery package. That will add another $1,750 to the purchase price.

The last two add-ons for this Mini model include a $250 heated steering wheel and the Dynamic Damper Control suspension system, which runs around $500. If you add up all of these extra, the final comes to $43,625. But there’s also a destination and handling fee, bringing the total to over $44,000.

However, using the build tool on the Mini website, you’ll notice it deducts charges for the standard features removed when you choose to upgrade certain features, such as the upholstery. Using that took, we got a grand total of $40,800 for a fully loaded 2023 Mini Cooper S Convertible after those deductions.

Which trim should you buy?

Though the 2023 Mini Cooper S Convertible offers plenty of perks, Car and Driver believes the best model for the money is the Cooper S Hardtop in the three-door (hatchback) configuration. C/D also suggests upgrading to the 2.0-liter engine because it complements the standard six-speed manual transmission well.

The starting price for this model is $27,750, which isn’t bad, considering you get standard LED lights, Union Jack taillights, a multitone roof, piano black accessories, color-changing ambient lighting, an active driving assistance system, an 8.8-inch touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay.

In the end, a fully loaded 2023 Mini Cooper S Convertible offers a lot for the high price, but it isn’t necessarily the best buy. If you’re dead set on a new Cooper Convertible but don’t have a $40,000 budget, consider a model that isn’t fully loaded. Or if the drop-top isn’t that important, check out the Cooper S Hardtop instead — it provides plenty of features for a much lower price.
