That said, while the Mini Cooper Hardtop is a nice and affordable hatchback, some car shoppers might want to splurge and equip their Mini with the max amount of features. Here’s a look at how much a fully loaded 2023 Mini Cooper Hardtop will cost.

Overview of the 2023 Mini Cooper Hardtop

The 2023 Mini Cooper Hardtop starts at a fairly affordable $24,000. As with any affordable hatchback, the standard Mini Cooper doesn’t come with anything too impressive. It has a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine making only 134 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. It takes about 7.5 seconds for the standard Cooper to go from 0 to 60 mph, Car and Driver reports. That said, this engine is very fuel-efficient. It gets 28 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. 

In terms of the Mini Cooper’s interior, the hardtop version is more practical than the convertible. But it’s still a small hatchback, providing only about 34 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the rears seats folded down. That said, Mini gave the car a leather steering wheel and heated front seats as standard. It also comes with an 8.8-inch touchscreen display and advanced safety features such as automatic emergency braking.

How much does a fully loaded 2023 Mini Cooper Hardtop cost?

According to Mini, the most expensive Mini Cooper Hardtop model is the John Cooper Works (JCW). The JCW starts at about $40,000. That’s before adding options and packages. With all the bells and whistles, a 2023 Mini Cooper Hardtop JCW can cost upward of $43,000. That pays for extras like a heated steering wheel, roof racks, and premium color options. 

That said, the main reason why there’s not a huge price difference is because the standard JCW model already adds plenty of features to the Mini Cooper. The biggest change is under the hood — the JCW swaps the standard Cooper’s 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder for a 2.0-liter turbo-four. This engine harnesses 228 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque, pushing the Mini Cooper from 0 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds, C/D reports.

The JCW also gives the Mini Cooper a more luxurious cabin. The most obvious upgrade is the leather upholstery. Also, expect a panoramic moonroof and a 12-speaker premium audio system.

So, which model should you buy?

Though the JCW offers a more powerful engine and luxurious features, it isn’t the best Mini Cooper model to buy, according to Car and Driver. That honor goes to the Mini Cooper S Hardtop. It’s one trim level above the standard Mini Cooper Hardtop, but it offers more bang for your buck. It starts at about $28,000, roughly $4,000 more than the standard Cooper Hardtop.

The main upgrade this trim gets over the standard model is a bigger engine. Like the JCW, the Cooper S also has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. However, it’s weaker, producing 189 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque. That said, it still makes the Mini Cooper Hardtop a much more fun car to drive without making it too expensive.
